Narrative Report Children Recovery Center

Decent Essays
For the past 6 months we were working on setting up a date with the Children Recovery Center. We were thinking as a class to go to the Children Recovery Center around Christmas time and play with the kids. We both agreed on December 2nd to come in. In class we were planning stuff out to make December 2nd as smooth as possible for the kids. We set a goal for ourselves to make $1,200 to donate to the Children Recovery Center. We planned out fundraisers and did a book drive. We made Christmas cards and posters for the kids. We also baked treats for the staff to say Thank You. All the money we got from the fundraisers was about $900 and we used that money to buy the Children Recovery Center 4 chairs for the kids.

After reading this chapter I had very mixed emotions. Growing up with a religious background and working at Children’s Rehab Center with kids that are diagnosed with mental, physical, and cognitive problems I believe that every human being is considered a person. No matter how small the human being is. The book states that a person is defined as “someone who is capable of psychological and social interaction with others, capable of deciding on a course of action and being held responsible for that action.”…

Although there were many, my most memorable Girls State memory by far was running for office. I ran for state Attorney General. Attaining the position of a state office is extremely challenging at Girl’s State. If you chose to run for a state office, like I did, you have to campaign against 400 other girls. I had to go through many different interviews, including a “rapid fire” Q&A session.…

The trip to a camping site in the middle of a Pennsylvania forest- a trip I would never forget- lead me to the discovery of myself and my transition into adulthood. This trip was through the summer camp I have attended for now eleven years; Liberty Lake Day Camp located in Columbus, New Jersey, is my second home. I grew up in this camp, and when I finally reached the age to become a L.I.T, a leader in training, I was eager to undergo the program with my friends I always attended camp with. This trip was a reward to all the hard work we do as L.I.Ts. Little did I know the annual L.I.T trip to the camping site would be life changing.…

For my Story Corps project I interviewed my mom. I decided to interview my mom because I thought about how interesting it would be to find out a little bit more about her because I have known her for eighteen years and there are still many things that I don’t know about her. I learned a lot about her childhood and learned some of the many difficult things that she had to endure as a child. I also asked her if she liked going to school and learned that it was one of the things that she loved doing the most, and tried very hard to get farther in her education. My mom was really nervous and thought it was kind of awkward at the beginning…

Last year, I had the chance to work with an organization called Santa’s Little helpers. It's an organization that raises gifts to give to children in orphanages, hospitals, foster care, ect. It was the first time it was coming to the Portland area, and the person in charge had allowed me to help out and be part of the team. A big problem was how we were gonna have the event run smoothly and set up an incentive that would make others want to donate. Since the event is on one specific day (like a blood drive), advertising was very crucial because we needed to make sure we had enough donations/gifts in order for it be a success.…

Often times when we hear the word ‘service’ we think of doing something for someone other than yourself. In that moment of kindness, you may not think that your small gesture or the work you are doing for someone could have an impact on someone’s life or even the world. Throughout the text, The Work by Wes Moore, the idea of work has a much bigger meaning that states having a life that matters is important. He believes that living a life full of meaning, purpose, and service are the keys that allow you to become part of a bigger picture.…
