Smack in the Face
Imagine you were on a mission trip. The group you were with got done with the first job you had to to then you went to a boys and girls club, and a kid ask you to go to the gym and play game with him. So you play with him and you throw a ball at one of your friends as hard as you can, miss miserably and hit a kid in the face. I went on a mission trip up to Duluth Minnesota with Carl Kruse, Dillion Bathke, Connor Jurens, Seth Sproke, Cole Riemersma, and a few others. It was mostly a fun time except for the time a few people and me were scared.
It was the first time we have gone on a mission trip. We left for Duluth at about 6:30 in the morning. It was about a seven hour car ride and only had to pull over for a corn field

That is basically just a day car for kid. It is a really nice daycare though. It has a gym, a place for older kid to stay, a playground, a common playroom, and a place for middle school kids. All we had to do was play with the kids. It was fun because they had fun stuff to do there like bumper pool, foosball, and carpet ball. I got schooled in carpet ball a few times, and I won a few and lost a few of bumper pool. The some kid asked seth and I to go to the gym. We went to the gym and he and some other kids wanted to play basketball, so we play and I sucked at it. So then they changed to playing some type of game where you had to throw a ball and when you get hit you have to sit down. When we were playing I got the ball and threw it as hard as I could at Seth and missed miserably. That was not so bad except that I hit a girl who was about nine or ten-years-old and black. Right after that the first thing I did was laugh. That was dumb. Then I went over to say sorry and her friends were black and sassy chewed be out and told me to go away. So I left the gym and went and sat by Dillion. Where we were sitting there was windows above us and we were sitting there and I told him what happened and after that we heard knocking on the window above use. We looked up and those girls were up there staring at us. We were both scared, and we were glad we were leaving right away. As we were walking out the door those girls were yelling at me saying no to come back. We went back the next day, and that time I smelled like

I had just entered my junior year in high school and was back to playing football, my grades were good so far and my A.D.D. medication was helping me a lot. Zach and I had just arrived at the union school for a junior varsity game against Oceanside high school, we geared up and got ready for the game. I started the game at quarterback and the game wasn't going well for us, which didn't come as a surprise because jv games are never enjoyable. I took the snap and rolled out to the left side of the field, no one was open so I tucked the ball under my arm and started to run up field, I had room to move, suddenly a linebacker running at me from my side started to shorten up his steps and set himself for a tackle, he tackled low but I…

In the middle of my sophomore year, I was asked by a senior if I would like to be the president of a dance club they had started that year. The club members knew that I was apart of a well known dance studio. I was indecisive primarily because the club only had 3 members and so I did not know how I could make it into something starting off alone and young, but something told me to just go for it. And that I did.…

“Throwing Down The Gauntlet On My Life” I’m a junior at Presbyterian Pan American School. I was born in Brownsville, Texas, but since my parents are Mexican nationals, I grew up in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2013, my parents told me to “pack your bags” you are going to Kingsville, Texas. I came to Texas three years ago to attend Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a senior private boarding school in Kingsville, Texas, on an academic scholarship. Talking about different aspects of my life is daunting, but it also allows me to come to terms with my growth as an individual by learning from my failures, confronting obstacles such as adapting to new surroundings, and a different educational system, speaking English properly, and adjusting to a real world working environment.…

This chapter reminded me of a vacation that my family and I took to the Grand Canyon when I was in middle school. On this particular vacation, I had gotten my hands on one of those books that you just can’t put down. I quickly learned the art of walking and reading at the same time. I was good at avoiding collisions with other people. Correction: other people were good at avoiding collisions with me.…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

Subsequently, the girl running next to me, went up for the ball just like I did and the ball hit my head but she pushed right into my side and I came crashing down. While I was falling, the girl was falling too and her elbow came crashing into my head.…

There are many different types of mission trips that one can attend. From mission trips that are fun to mission trips where you work, they all bring memories that one can hold dearly. One of the best parts of a mission trip are the people you meet there and the relationships you build. For the last five summers, I have participated in a mission trip called World Changers. This is a trip where young teenagers take a week off their summer to come and help others in work they are unable to do around their house.…

I am divergent when it comes to deciding if I am a carrot, egg or coffee bean. It truly depends on what is happening and what environment I am in. My past experiences changed how I react to difficulties faced in life now. When faced with adversity, I can be stiff and hard inside like an egg, I can get soft and weak like a carrot, or I can change the situation in front of me just like a coffee bean. It all depends on the circumstances.…

It was my first year being an independent teacher for Vacation Bible School at my church. I had taken this initiative seeing no one else was up for the challenge to teach six to seven year olds, even though the meeting for VBS had been filled with adults. I had an idea of how it was often helping my older sister in past years to help take the kids from class to class, but the pressure of being in full responsibility of them was something I had never experienced. It was frightening yet exciting.…
