Decent Essays

When my parents told me I could go scuba diving I was filled with joy. Last summer was the first time I felt like I wanted to do something so bad, but when it came time to do it, I felt like I would be sick. Scuba diving taught me that I need to calm down and not worry so much.

My parents had been planning a trip to Italy and asked me if I wanted to go scuba diving. I answered so fast as I thought about being under water and swimming with all the beautiful fish and aquatic life. My parents had researched for a guy for me and my brothers to take lessons with. A few days later my dad brought us a book and told

We were staying for two weeks and we were going scuba diving on one of the last days. Through the weeks I hadn't stopped thinking about the dive. When the day had come I was so happy. We went to the dock where we would get on the boat. That's when I started to feel nervous. The ride to the dive sight was nerve racking and when we got their it got worse. I was one of the last people to get in the water because my suit wouldn't go on. It eventually went on and when I got in the water it was time to go down. Before we went down my dad took his mask of and said calmly, "Just breathe," and then he went down. When I was swimming I felt like I couldn't breathe. I hated it. I wanted to go back up and just float on the surface. I was in the front of the group so I was the first person to go through the cave. Normally, my brothers were right behind me but they never came. My dad went to find them and came out holding Nicholas. The instructor took Nick up to the surface and then came back down without him. I was even more scared and I started to suck the air out of my tank. My dad kept making the motions for me to breathe slowly so I stopped and just breathed. Our dive was basically already done so we started to head up. As soon as we got up I asked Nick what happened and he said he just felt sick. We went to our second dive and I felt more relaxed. We swam around and I enjoyed all the bright colors and assortment of fish. At the end of the day I was able to drive the boat back to the

I was nervous more than anything of flipping over and trying to get back with a boat but I was still excited. The same guy that helped us into the canoes helped me into the kayak, I slowly tried to inch in but as soon as I set one foot in I lost balance and fell in! I swam up out of the water embarrassed with seaweed sticking out of my shorts laughing as everyone else laughed too. My mom asked the guy if that happens a lot and just my luck he say nope, I am the first one this summer to do it. After that I crawled in and got off to a good start, but if you’ve ever been kayaking you would know it’s a bit trickier to balance and paddle too.…

On our way back we rowed over to the big square crab trap that we put out earlier. As we got closer I looked into the water a saw a baby shark which freaked me out and I yelled SHARK at the top of my lungs like I was in the movie Jaws.
