One of the appeals that got me most was when he says “slaves were like farm equipment.” For some reason that really lit a fire under my butt. This is because you knew it was practically true because back in those days the whites never did any hands on work while being on the farm that had to do with manual labor. For example, Douglass uses the appeal saying “ their object seems to be, to disgust their slaves with freedom, by plunging them into the lowest depths of dissipation.”pg(45) So pretty much what they’d do is once they found out that the slaves liked drinking, they’d have a contest. So what that game consisted of was they’d ask who can drink this many bottles and how fast? So of course the slaves all raced to do it well all of the would get sick a puke their guts out. So when the next time they had time off came around they didn’t wanna drink anymore because it made them so sick last time. For me that really pissed me off cause they literally tried ruining everything the slaves enjoyed. So honestly that really pisses me off. Like their life’s are already terrible. Let them enjoy
