Things were starting to look bleak for my yearly cookie extravaganza and handmade Christmas cards, we all know that would be an even bigger tragedy than not having hopfest. So it finally snowed! I’m happy that it finally did and I built a snowman during the storm and it looks kind of…squared you could say. Since the snow is heavy, more of the leaves are now fallen off and it’s starting to look like winter. Today I went to my grandparents’ house to spend the few nights until thanksgiving. While driving out there, the corn fields and the bean fields were all covered with snow, you could tell that the deer were out and about since you could clearly see the footprints in the snow.…

That was until I found a recipe on how to make some chocolate chip cookies and said, “I can totally do this!” an hour and a half later, (yes ... I struggled) and with some guidance of my mother, a batch of cookies popped out of the oven. I was scared at first to let anybody try them because they looked quite horrid, but as soon as the first daredevil, my older brother, tried this twelve-year-old’s cookies he immediately smiled, shoved the remaining cookie into his mouth, and grabbed another two.…

I started baking at a young age, and right then I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I make cakes for family and friends whenever I can and also took some Wilton cake decorating classes. I even took 2 years of ceramics classes and an AP 3D art class to better my skill. I like the idea that I can replicate something while making it edible as well. I love working with fondant, gum paste, and modeling chocolate.…

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an individual child with a desire to gain one Snickers bar, must be prepared to trade no less than three Twix bars. In my household, every bag of fun sized confections was an opportunity for a ridiculous negotiation with a not so ridiculous lesson behind it. When my father loves Snickers just as much as I do, why should he take only one inferior Twix for one Snickers? Critically assessing how much my companion stands to lose versus how much I was willing to pay to get what I want is a skill I have been developing since middle school. Negotiation and debate, human interaction of all kinds have always piqued my interests both academically and recreationally.…

Past two guarded gates in an old airplane hangar, is a robotics lab at the NASA Ames Research Center. During the day, it is filled with scrap metal, blue banners, and heavy machinery. In the evening and late into the night, it fills with girls: girls who are determined and passionate; girls who want to laugh and make friends; girls who want to learn everything they can about building robots. These girls make up my community: the Space Cookies. Space Cookies is an FRC team, a Girl Scout troop, and a community of girls enthusiastic about math, science, and engineering.…

After waiting what seemed like an eternity the cookies were placed in front of me and my mouth was watering. I took the first bite and it was like my taste buds had fallen into a meadow of flowers. The pleasant taste took my taste buds on a journey of sweet, bitter, and even a bit salty. My tongue felt like it was tossed into a beautiful story with an intro, rising action, climax and a final resolution of…

The Cookie Monster A long time ago, during the year 2015, I had been dieting, exercising, and cutting down how much I ate so I could lose weight. This had been going on for quite a few months and I had not eaten a whole lot off sweets or any other kind of junk food. One day, however, I began to truly crave some sweets. At the time, I was very hungry, my stomach was grumbling and carrying on loudly about wanting to be fed.…

The course received its first frost cover on November 20th and a steady continuance of chilling temperatures throughout the week. With a sketchy weather forecast, a little time-out from golf gave some added relief to the upcoming holiday festivities. Speaking of festivities, the 9-hole ladies gathered together to celebrate the annual Christmas Lunch held on December 3rd. We were in awe with the festive holiday table decor, put together by our lovely Suzanne Schmitz. Lori Randall captured our attention during the lunch with a slide show collection of current golf and past golf pictures from decades long ago.…
