Today I volunteered for four and a half hours at Santa Clara Central Library, Comic Con event. I signed up for this event because I want to learn more about comic con, and since this is the first time that Santa Clara have the comic con, I want to be a part of the event to see how it goes. At first, I didn’t expect that it was crowded like it was, because of how this is the first time our city doing comic con. At the event, I did meet a lot of new people and some event from cities that are nearby, which make me feel that this event is a great event that even people from far away come here to attend. Truth be told, I was only vaguely aware of the Noble Foundation before Jim Johnson, a Noble consultant, was seated next to me at an Oklahoma Crop Improvement Association banquet. While having small talk about summer plans, Jim got out his phone and walked me through the website to find the application. Little did I know that my summer plans would be drastically changed when I took his advice and applied for the Lloyd Noble Summer Scholar program. Being an agribusiness major from Oklahoma State University with only an agricultural regulations background, my overall exposure to the agricultural world has been through legislation, inspection, and guidelines. Needless to say, when I found out I was chosen as an intern I was excited.…

SNC did lack a sense of urgency throughout the entire evolution that slowed down the progression of the mission. SNC was able to maintain great control of his fire team through decisive decision making during the execution.…

This week was fun for me because I made the soccer team and we had a fun week of practices. We had much less homework this week than the previous week which was very fortunate because my brother and I had their grade’s curriculum nights so I was not getting home until eight thirty. There were three quizzes/tests this week which was a little rough but I think I got through them well. I thought that the Socratic seminar in LA was a little bit of a dud because…

If you had asked any of my peers for a description of who I am, they would have said that I was someone who was shy, and possibly even a bit awkward. This was a personality trait that I had been struggling with throughout the majority of my life. I had grown up as an only child, incessantly feeling out of place among my peers. It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

In Richard Wright’s The Library Card, the author vividly describes his quotidian life as an African-American living in the segregated south of the early- to mid- 20th century. Widely considered an autobiographical account, Wright’s short story touches on key details of his everyday life that separated his from the life of many whites. By holding such a unique perspective of the period’s culture, Wright, as the story’s narrator, is able to liberate himself from the confines put in place by the period’s unjust practices against African-Americans. Carefully describing and recanting life experiences where he was degraded or belittled on the account of his skin tone, Wright paints a vivid picture of the social constructs faced preventing any sort…

I volunteered at Book Thing, which is a non-profit organization that gives away donated books to the community. I chose Book Thing because I was interested in what the organization does and giving them a lending hand. Before I visited I was apprehensive about going because I didn’t know what to expect. I thought I would physically be handing books out to people, and interacting with people making personal connections. I expected it to be little to no organization, just volunteers willing to lend a helping hand.…

In his speech, “Why our Future depends on libraries, reading, and daydreaming” Neil Gaiman discusses the importance of reading books fostering literacy and imagination, especially for children. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction or any other genre, Gaiman supports people’s freedom of reading whatever they desire. Reading can only be beneficial in the end and people can learn much from books. Gaiman’s reasoning and use of rhetoric allow his argument to be persuasive to the audience he is presenting to. His main purpose is that more people should have a desire to read in this modern world even with the rapid rise of technology, not only to gain knowledge and learn but to allow their imagination to run free and become an intelligent citizen of society.…
