Working for the Travis County Constables office was an amazing experience. There are five different precincts in Travis County, but the particular office that I worked for was Precinct Two. The main things that they handle are civil matters such as property evictions and unpaid child support. There are three different departments warrant, civil, and civil/juvenile court. On average they see 4,000 warrants a year and make about $1,000,000. They process 5,700 civil papers a year and the average yearly income is $400,000. There is so much online technology that is used to assist as crime-fighting tools. The resources such as LexisNexis, Accurant, and Texas Workforce Commission, were all helpful so that the offices main goals were always met. Online research tools are beneficial in many different ways such as warrant research, civil paper research, missing people search, child support. Just about any work that needs to be done can be done with the help of online research tools. There are also new digital systems in the service cars. They used to use VHS systems and now use new and improved digital systems that have accurate footage. Once an officer turns their siren on the video system comes on and actually records one minute from the past so that everyone else can see what they saw. Body cameras and taser cameras are now being used as a way to add more accountability and transparency for officer’s actions in the field. The good thing about the new cameras is that they all work simultaneously with one another. When an officer turns on his sirens every microphone and camera begins to record and will rewind a minute backwards to have more accurate footage. That is a great feature to have for the protection of both the deputy and the public.
