I asked my cousin,”Will you go get my phone out of the truck so, i can check the time?” He ran to the truck then yelled back,”It’s locked.” I reached into my pocket to feel for my keys. Then, my heart dropped. My keys were not in my pocket. I began to shove my hands in my pockets in the hope I just missed them the last time. They were nowhere to be found. I sprinted to my truck and pulled on all of the door handles to make sure it was completely locked. I was furious with myself. We knew that my uncle lived about 5 miles down the road, so we started to run in the state of panic. Our parents had no way of getting a hold of us, so we thought this would be our best option. The road had no street lights. We were relying on only the moonlight to see the ground. The lake was to our right, and mesquite trees covered all the land to the left of the road. Occasionally as we were running, a car would pass us. We were so exhausted that we began to wave the cars down. We were not successful. The cars that passed acted like we were not there. They would pass us without slowing down. After 20 minutes of waving for help, a man stopped in a large four door truck. Having faith that this man meant us no harm, we hopped into his truck. I would have then been able to think about a different way, other than the locked doors, to get into the truck. This experience has taught me that I shouldn't panic in a bad situation. I should remain calm and think through what I am
