We carried on, I felt my legs start to give out before we reached the one-mile mark. My legs told me to slow down, my muscles felt like they were going to collapse. All I could feel was the burning sensation within my arms. As we were turned the corner of the last lap, the runner from Hohokus had a really big kick. I noticed her legs start to speed up, and a gap started to form in-between us. The gap between us was getting larger by the second. As it kept forming, I kept trying to close it. My body was shutting down. I wanted to stop and I felt as if it wasn't worth it at this point.
Then I heard the noise that no runner wants to hear. The sound of footsteps behind me. I looked from the corner of my eye, and I saw another runner from Hohokus trying to pass me. Immediately, I felt my mind take over my body. There was only 200m left in the race and everything in my body began to boot back up. My adrenaline started to rush with excitement, and my legs started to lengthen their strides. The sound of footsteps behind me began to lessen. But the girl in front of me was ahead by only a couple feet.
I almost caught her, but it didn't take the runner in front of me too long to realize what I was trying to do. She started sprinting, and I continued sprinting. The crowd was screaming, the girl next to me looked like she couldn't push anymore, the finish line was right there. The world was swirling around me, and at the most chaotic moment I was at
