Narrative Essay: The Kite Runner

I heard the gun go off, and off I ran. I tried to keep a steady pace as we rounded the first corner of the trail. A group of girls began to surround me and I could feel myself getting squished in the pack. Quickly, I pushed my way through the pack and ran faster to catch up with the girl in first place so far.
We carried on, I felt my legs start to give out before we reached the one-mile mark. My legs told me to slow down, my muscles felt like they were going to collapse. Then I felt my body start to slow down, and my legs began to take smaller strides. Abruptly, thoughts were being slammed into my head. Such as, Kristen stop, what are you doing? Don’t slow down now! Or, speed up your losing the girl in front of you! Get your shoulder on hers!

All I could feel was the burning sensation within my arms. As we were turned the corner of the last lap, the runner from Hohokus had a really big kick. I noticed her legs start to speed up, and a gap started to form in-between us. The gap between us was getting larger by the second. As it kept forming, I kept trying to close it. My body was shutting down. I wanted to stop and I felt as if it wasn't worth it at this point.
Then I heard the noise that no runner wants to hear. The sound of footsteps behind me. I looked from the corner of my eye, and I saw another runner from Hohokus trying to pass me. Immediately, I felt my mind take over my body. There was only 200m left in the race and everything in my body began to boot back up. My adrenaline started to rush with excitement, and my legs started to lengthen their strides. The sound of footsteps behind me began to lessen. But the girl in front of me was ahead by only a couple feet.
I almost caught her, but it didn't take the runner in front of me too long to realize what I was trying to do. She started sprinting, and I continued sprinting. The crowd was screaming, the girl next to me looked like she couldn't push anymore, the finish line was right there. The world was swirling around me, and at the most chaotic moment I was at
