Getting onto the bus I tripped up the steps, made my way to the back and… What the heck. Who is this kid? Why is he in my seat? When did this happen? What? I sat across from my usual seat because of an unfamiliar face was there and urned behind me, ignoring the boy across from me. I looked over and said “What’s up Scooter!” to my friend in a very over excited tone. …show more content…
We get off the bus, then I went on my way to my first class; Gym. Gym is a weird way to start the day but luckily I had many friends in that class. The day went on with the usual first day procedure, 6th graders running around not knowing where to go and getting lost. Teachers handing out the course syllabus then talking about what they named their dog when they were 12 or about how they went to their cousins over the summer. During lunch I sat at the usual table my friends and I sat at. I got pasta or some other school lunch, then I looked around. I noticed familiar faces and how people changed over the summer, I also noticed a few new faces. When school was over for the day I got on the bus, looked for my seat, and noticed it was open. I took my spot, slouched back, then relaxed and waited for everyone else to get on. Scooter sat behind me, Jacob sat diagonal to me, then the unfimular face sat across from me. It proved to be an eye-opening day, mostly because I saw how much students were on their phones, I learned that I am terrible at telling time, and I can now cope with my social anxiety instead of jumping to my phone.…

When entering junior high, we were constantly reminded by teachers, parents, and school administrators how different it was from elementary school. It was supposed to be the start of a transition from childhood to young adulthood, and though I discounted many of these sentiments at the time, looking back it certainly was. In an instant, it seemed, everyone started swearing and the hallways began to smell of a putrid mixture of not enough or too much cologne. For the first time we had to change before gym, no one really sure whether it was more socially acceptable to change in a bathroom stall or feign confidence by doing it out in the open. Talk swirled of who got their periods, who was wearing what bra size, and which boys needed to stop cultivating…
