Sean and I have just got to the shelter when we see a young boy lying on the ground. I run over to him and say,” Hey. Hey, kid. You Okay?” He does not show me any signal of anything. We believe he is sleeping, but we are not one hundred percent sure of that. Sean and I go back up to the shelter and wait for him to wake up. By the way, the name is Denver.” I tell the boy. He says “I’m To-Tony,”. Sean laughs and says,” ToTony,”. The way he says his name makes me think that he might be lying, or he might just be cold. “I mean Tony,” he says. I go over to the hot chocolate pot and refill Tony’s cup. I hand it back to him and he has it gone in one minute. I feel bad for Tony. He is out her all alone, and he looks like he doesn’t really know how to survive in the wilderness. I wander why he is even out here. Sean asks him why he was out in the wilderness. He then answers, “I’m getting my advanced Wilderness Survival badge for Boy Scouts. I have to spend a week in the woods on my own.” Wow. Boy Scouts must be harder than I first thought it would be. “Well, you’re doing a lousy job at earning the that badge,”. Sean has been pretty rude to Tony. Hopefully, he does not take Sean’s words to seriously. I ask Tony when he will be heading out. “Yeah. I think I’ll try to get to the next shelter.” I wonder if he is going to Kinsman Pond. I find out that we are both going to Kinsman Pond. “Well, I don’t want to hold you guys up any longer.” Sean does not want him to come with us because he is slow. I can tell he wants to come with us. We compromise. He takes of now and we will meet up with him. Sean and I start packing to get ready to go to the next

For centuries our society has been fighting for equality of race, at times facing great setback and strife. Walking through certain cities today, they seem so fully integrated that it would be hard to remember that they were once otherwise. However, as you travel deeper into the south that centuries old racism becomes more and more prevalent. It is not uncommon to see a confederate flag outside someone’s house or flying behind a teenage boy’s lifted truck. It wouldn’t be shocking to hear a racial slur leave an old man’s mouth.…

Even after the complete settlement of Australia, we saw immense amounts of racism coming from the government.…

Not to say that there was no racism; it just was not seen very often. Some would call me lucky to have been so naïve in my microcosm.…

Since the use of genetic data to define the validity of race erupted in the 1970’s, some scientists have addressed the notion that genetic variation by means of racial differences represents a form of racialization and therefore racism, in healthcare settings and within health spectrums in general. By using race as an indicator of genetic disparities we are acknowledging race as a biologically based enigma rather than a social construct. We allow discrimination to color a picture of embodied inequality among healthcare measures. Just as the anthropological definition of culture defines cultures as static entities defined by geographic boundaries, we cannot perceive race as a biological marker of genetic variation because it to is complex and static. Human biology, no matter what geographic location one hails from, is…
