Narrative Essay - Formal Assignment #3
Who I Am Whether they are good or bad, we all have influences in our lives. Those who influence us the most, are the ones we see on a daily basis. In my life, I have 3 main examples; my mom, my dad, and my brother. Every single one of them have played a huge role in shaping me into who I am today. I carried their traits with me for a long time, copying their actions, decisions and sentences. That was until I became me. I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada with the mountains as my next door neighbor. My parents bought a brand new home right next to Sunrise Mountain, and we lived there for 6 years. My mother worked for the state and I loved going into work with her. I followed her around, brought

My dad is by far the most hardworking man that I know. Much like Sandra Cisneros, I come from an immigrant family, with my dad being from Mexico and my mom from Nicaragua. Both my parents came to this country for an opportunity, just like everyone else with the American dream in sight. My dad has always worked in jobs that require hard, manual labor. His hands, thick and covered in cuts and calluses, never fail to bring bread to the table though. Although my parents didn’t obtain the best education, they never overlooked it, especially not my father. Even if he’s tired and worn out, he helps me every night with my math homework. He sits and listens to me play the piano, and sometimes he even helps me himself. “The reason I work so hard is so that you and Donovan can have a good education,” he says. My dad has taught me to value and appreciate school, to not think of it as a mandatory law, but as a privilege we have in our …show more content…
Although we are six years apart, I couldn't feel closer to anyone else on this planet. My brother is my role model. He is an example of dedication and perseverance. Like any little sister, you always look up to your older sibling. His liking in books, movies and music kind of transfered to me. Anything that he did, I tried to do. Whatever he said, I always repeated. Even if it was something stupid, I would say it too. As a result of our parent’s great deal of effort into our education, Donovan got into UCLA and UCSD on a full scholarship for Mechanical Engineering. I want to follow his footsteps, because if he can do it, I can

I can only imagine how difficult it is to have to care for a family of six boys considering how amazing of a job they did. Throughout my lifetime I have watched as my parents work night and day to not only provide for our needs but to also each and every one of our wants. They are the most diligent selfless people people I have ever seen and will continue to be for as long as they live. They have taught me what hard work is and what it means to make sacrifices for the well being of others. They have educated me on sharing and service and not by force, but by example.…

Not everyone has something positive to make them who they are today. However, every so often it’s more common to have something negative, and so it can push you beyond your own boundaries. The person I am today is because of my big sister Thalia. In “Me Talk Pretty One Day” the narrators influence was his teacher, she was rude to her students just for mispronouncing French and judge her students on what they like on the first day of class and she never changed her attitude during the course of the story, I think she was a negative influence on him. I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…
