Creative Writing: Secret Santa

It was December 18th, seven days until Christmas, and an ordinary day so far in New York City. Amber was on her way to work, shoving her way through the busy streets. Christmas cheer filled the air, lights hung on the rooftops of buildings, stores blasted Christmas songs, and snowflakes danced down from the grey cloudy sky. Amber swung the office door behind her and was greeted by her cheerful employees. The office was decorated with lights and garland hanging around the cubicles, paper snowflakes taped to the ceiling and a fake Christmas tree stood right by the door. Most people were wearing ugly sweaters, Santa hats, or red and green earrings. Amber took the elevator to the seventh out of twenty-six floors including the roof. Her friends …show more content…
Around lunchtime, all of the workers gathered around to pick names for the annual Secret Santa. It has been a tradition for over ten years to do a secret Santa, and so far it had always been a success. This year, Amber and Kaitlyn were running it and they were determined to keep the tradition going. One by one, employees approached them, picked out a tiny folded slip of paper from the red, felt hat and continued on with there day. Amber and Kaitlyn decided that everyone would have to have their gifts by next Wednesday to exchange them. Finally, there were only two slips of paper remaining in the hat. The rest of the day went by normally for Amber. She left with everyone else at eight and walked out with Kaitlyn, Lacey, and Quinn to admire the city lights. Everything felt so much more magical around Christmas …show more content…
Kaitlyn showed the note to everyone the next day they all realized how sketchy it was. Secret Santa was technically already over and even though it seemed nice to keep writing noted, these were getting a little creepy. Day after day, Kaitlyn would come in with a new note from her “secret Santa” Pretty soon, everybody knew about it and wondered who it was. The writer never revealed any clues about themselves or spoke out in front of anyone. Eventually, Kaitlyn even started getting letters in the mail at some point. This frightened everyone because they knew it had to be someone that knew where she lives and works. Kaitlyn never recalled giving out her address to anyone at work though. Amber knew that there was no way someone could get away with doing this to her friend. Her first thought was to call the police, but they wouldn’t show up for a bunch of lame secret Santa notes. There was nothing anyone could really

Even though all forms of authorship misconduct are unacceptable and unethical and strongly discourages the scientific researchers, but in my view I believe that the gift authorship is the most significant to avoid. Gift authorship is giving co-authorship or listing as an author to a person who has no substantial contribution to the research and this is an unacceptable practice for academic publication and unethical. Gift authorship is a clear evidence that the publication falsely represents the individual's expertise. For this and many other reasons, I believe that the gift authorship is the most dangerous authorship…

Every Christmas Eve our family gathers around the coffee table in our apartment in New York City. During the day we go to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and buy chocolate candies from the Greenwood Pastry on the corner. Uncle Riley leads the way as we walk the streets until the light begins to fade between the office towers and the crippled gargoyles forever perched on the corners of the buildings that illuminate a golden age gone by. We laugh together and reminisce about the previous Christmases we have spent together. The elevator seems quieter on these nights, almost as if it has a respect for the holiday, but I know it’s just because we’re all crammed in there together.…
