Narrative Essay On The Most Dangerous Game

The bright sun was beating down on my face as I squinted to see the score. 9-9 with a minute left in the game. I was wearing my low cut tank top with a number sixty-six on the back and my black kilt with a Bethel Park hawk on the lower right. My white cleats were stained from the freshly cut grass and I had a bruise on my right knee from falling down. I looked through the grey metal cage of my face mask and bit down on my mouthguard determined to win the game.
Being the oldest person on a team with girls who haven’t played before this year gave me a sense of leadership. I was, not trying to brag, the best player on the team. Lacrosse is a hard sport to play, and dangerous too. I got more than half of the points on the scoreboard. I played the midey position which is were you play offense and defense and you have to run the field a lot. The other team wasn’t half bad for their age. I could tell the little girls were starting to panic with only a minute, time left. They’ve never had to play with this much pressure before. It was the end of the second half, too. The end of the game was only seconds away. Our coach reassured us that we can win the game and sent us onto the field all revved up and ready to win.

We won the face off and I got the ball; I ran down the field with fifteen seconds left. The seconds were going away like cookies at Grandma’s house. Two defenders from the other team came at me like seagulls going for that last piece of sandwich that the little boy left at the beach. The two defenders were good, but not good enough. I could’ve easily shot the ball past the goalie and into the net, but instead I passed to one of the little girls on my team, Tessa. There were only three seconds left. She bobbled the ball and then shot

First, Rainsford struggles against his environment after he falls into the sea. Fighting the water, Rainsford tries to stay above the surface long enough to cry out to the yacht, but "the wash from the speeding yacht [slaps] him in the face and the salt water in his open mouth [makes] him gag and strangle"(Connell 15). Through his eloquent language and vivid details, including an example of personification, Connell adeptly depicts Rainford's clash against the forces of nature, leaving the reader on the edge of his seat as he waits…
