We drive back around to the house and I offer to get the cup, because it’s my family’s house, they’d feel a lot more comfortable with me coming up to their porch at 1 A.M. than they would a stranger. Right as I am about to hop out and get it, they see the shadow of my Uncle Jesse standing at the front door. They get spooked and speed away. As I reassure them that it is not a big deal, we come around for a second shot at snagging the cup. Everyone gets jittery and Elly refuses to stop. This time I tell them that if they are so scared they should just pull along the side of the house and that I will handle everything. Hoping the third time will be the charm, we round the corner for one last try. This time, Uncle Jesse is out on the porch watching us. Elly sees him and decides to forget the cup all together and just high tail it out of the neighborhood. As we make our way back into Smithton, we pass another copper. My mind is racing back and forth, and I eventually just fall asleep, only to be awakened by Kayla 20 minutes later, still freaking out about what just happened. I tell her that it will all be fine and I roll over and go back to sleep. Every 15 minutes after that, Kayla would again wake me up and express her feelings about the situation. After the fifth time of her waking me up, I hear my phone go off. It’s a text from my Aunt Kim, the owner of the blow up reindeer. I feel my heart stop and my stomach turn. I open the text, fearful of
