Personal Narrative: The Farm House

It was about five below zero as we pulled into the driveway on this crisp breezy night. The farm house was all lit up with the festive colorful lights that are common around Christmas. I had the faintest inclination that there had been some cooking going on in this house today, and that is what gave me the strength to open the car door and feel the instant frosty breeze sweep over my face. I grabbed the hood of my coat and pulled it up over my head to save some of the heat from leaving my already freezing body. As I reached the doorway, and grabbed the handle and pushed down, as the door opened I was flustered with the heat that burst through the door. So I pulled up next to my cousin’s car, and stepped out. When I walked inside I saw the meal was all out on the counter, and the air was absorbing the mouthwatering aroma of the honey smoked ham, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. As the afternoon passed by, and relatives continued to flow in. I found that, like every year, the family goes through the kitchen. When they are satisfied, and full to the brim with all the desserts; they go sit in the living room, and when we are all cramped in the living room the gifts for the kids 17 and under are passed out and they get opened. When the kid’s gifts are finished the “white elephant” adult gift exchange takes place. Once all the fun is done the relatives slowly start saying goodnight and heading home. That is everyone except for my family and I, you see, we usually stay a day after Christmas and then go to my other grandparents. As I awoke I sat up in the living room chair where I had dozed off the night before. I thought about the dream I had just had; it had felt so real. But I figured I better not waste my time pondering about a dream so I got up ate a bowl of cereal, and went out to the shop to see what my grandpa was up
