The Earthquake

Rebecca lived in Phoenix Arizona with her parents. Her parents were out grocery shopping and she had the afternoon to herself. She was in the kitchen reading a novel when she noticed that there was sand in her tea. Suddenly the house began to shake as if there were an earthquake. The house dropped at full speed and crashed through pipes and rocks. She lay on the ground hoping the collision would stop because she did not feel very well. The air in the kitchen began to feel warm and she realized she was drenched in sweat. At a precise angle the house shot upwards very fast. She was still lying on the ground when she felt a heavy thud. A bit frightened Rebecca cautiously stood up. 2 The Land of the Bluekins

She noticed the gloves that had once belonged to the wicked Sorcerer of the Parallel, they were a golden color and looked small. She tried them on and they fitted her perfectly. After crossing many roads she found the one with the grey footsteps and walked beside it. She was greeted by the Bluekins respectfully because they knew she had freed them from bondage of the wicked Sorcerer of the Parallel. Rebecca became very tired in the evening and saw a group of Bluekins gathered outside their home listening to music and eating a hearty meal. They invited her home and recognized she must be very skilled because she was wearing the gloves of the Sorcerer and only a select few could wear them. Doc was particularly friendly and showed Rebecca her room. The next morning Rebecca thanked the Bluekins and set out on her journey to the City of Gold. After a long day of walking Rebecca was very tired and sat on a bench to rest. She saw a toy mouse on the floor and thought it was a miserable sight. Rebecca leaned against the bench and observed the toy mouse carefully. It was wearing a pointed blue hat and a blue shirt covered its stomach. It was sitting in an upright position and looked very dainty. While Rebecca was observing how cute it looked she noticed it smile at her. Surprised, she thought she was mistaken but then the mouse spoke and said ‘Good day miss.’ ‘You can speak?’ asked Rebecca surprised ‘Yes I can.’ replied the mouse. ‘How are you?’ ‘I am quite fine thank you.’ replied Rebecca politely. ‘How are you?’ ‘I am not so well’ said the mouse. ‘My owner Alice does not want me to be her toy anymore so I am now outside without a friend.’ Rebecca was surprised and asked ‘Who is Alice?’ ‘And why doesn’t she want you to be her toy anymore?’ ‘Alice is the little girl who lives in the house over there’ said the mouse pointing to a blue house behind the bench. It was late afternoon, as we gathered into the grey concrete-block home. Using the only light that peaked through the small openings on opposite sides of the room, we began to remove the gently worn tennis shoes from the thick dark green military-styled bags. On the dull floors, a few other members began to separate the piles by sections, Men, Women and Children, then by size. In orderly fashion, each local woman stepped in, scanned the floor, then happily grabbed a pair before exiting. Coming from overseas, we could only carry enough to provide one pair per family in the small town of Barassa.…
