Narrative Essay On The Day Before The Competition

“Come on in!”, exclaimed my dad, ushering Arshia and Avinash into my home, safe from the danger of obtaining hypothermia in the freezing cold winds that blasted every few seconds and from the softly-falling, dunk-in-your-face huge raindrops in Texas. It was February 17, 2017, the day before the competition. We, meaning my brother, Arshia, Avinash, my dad(he was the team manager), and I, were going to paint our scene sets and put some finishing touches on our wonderful mechanism today. We’re participating in a competition called Destination Imagination and there were different subjects to compete in. My friends, my brother, and I all agreed, after lots of hard thinking, to participate in the Show and Tech challenge. We have to create a 2 minute …show more content…
After we reached our destination, we quickly got lost in the maze of rooms, different floors, and people. When we found our correct room which was, decorated with pink streamers high up on the ceiling, we had to wait EVEN MORE until, finally, it was our turn to perform our wonderful and sublime skit. A queasy feeling settled into my stomach and my hands became sweaty to the touch. When we started to perform, I felt a bit nervous but going on, I began to feel more confident of myself. We were all playing our roles perfectly, flawlessly. But, the one tiny, miniscule problem was that the flooring was carpet, which presented a situation. The thing was, we didn’t think there was going to a carpet flooring and we were completely thrown off track when we saw the carpet. Our mechanism was designed to move better on hardwood flooring than carpet and soon realized that our machine was an exceedingly slow garden snail. I started to lose a bit of my confidence after that. We briskly finished our last lines and waited to hear what the judges had to …show more content…
We had plenty of time to evaluate ourselves, draw, laugh, talk, and joke about all the things we went through together to get to this very point of time. Finally, a balding man wearing a bright red hoodie came and led us to the “common room” where everyone was located. With a mixture of sadness and disappointment, I let my mom and dad lead me outside to our car. 3 days later, I found out the we came in 6th place in the subject category we performed in which wasn’t bad at all. Not bad at all. Honestly, I thought we’d come in 4th place or something because other teams could have improved. My brother, Arshia, Avinash, and I did such a great job on performing and creating an imaginative plot-line. I realized my love for acting and building circuits from this amazing and unique experience which I could never learn any other

Year Round Around Christmas everything was usually all rowdy in the airport. You saw a big bright tree, you’d hear bells ringing, kids singing, jolly music playing, and you’d even smell sweets. However, this year was different, you heard lockers slamming, footsteps of anxious businessmen, elevator doors closing, and no music. The tree in the lobby was dull with one single gold star, and yellow flickered lights that indicated they weren’t going to last.…

It all started when I was in about fourth grade. A group of firefighters came to my school for a presentation. I remember vividly an intimidatingly burly fire marshall telling I don’t remember much about it, except that they told each of us that we needed an escape plan in case of a fire. I remember a story my mom had told me many times about a fire that devastated her family when she was a little girl. It made me shake in my shoes.…

It was a hot and humid night in Livingston Parish, Louisiana in the middle of October. My dad, mom, brother, and I were inching our way down the road towards the fairgrounds. The traffic was backed up for at least two miles and my brother and I were restless. At just 9 and 12 we had visions of hot dogs and funnel cakes swimming through our minds, making us ask consistently when we will be there. At almost nine o’clock we finally pull up onto the makeshift dirt driveway heading into the massive parking lot, which was really only a field.…

Dancing in the Spotlight Standing in the spotlight is a very frightening, gut-wrenching accomplishment. Dancing alone in the spotlight can be even more so. I experienced dancing in the spotlight two years ago, when I played the part of Clara in the Nutcracker. Of course, it all started with dance, or rather, without dance. My mom was driving me to the studio, but I was not feeling well, so she strode inside to inform my teacher I was unable to dance that day.…

The Last Day Sweat was gleaming off my face as I finished lifting our couch into my mother’s van. It was a familiar action, we has always been moving around. We had held many houses for rent, each for one year at a time. We never stayed anywhere for long, presumably because nobody liked renting to single mothers with five kids. We were always drifters, seeking houses for rent and never having a permanent situation.…
