A tradition in my family on thanksgiving, new years and Christmas eve would be my dad cooking pork for the family to eat. The recipe was taught to him by my paternal grandfather. Being Hispanic is a topic that comes up everyday of my life. For example, in scholarship applications, college applications, AP exam days. The questions is always there, “Are you Hispanic/Latino?” Being Hispanic is accompanied by a set of expectations from your family, go to school, get good grades, graduate college and high school and become successful at whatever field you choose. The way we view information reflects on our personality, some people may share the same personality while others are different. In Hispanic culture, children are taught time and time again to think about most dark skinned people as bad and sketchy at all times regardless of what they are doing. Because of the generation I am part of, I am trying to break way from that stereotype. Moreover, while speaking with someone I pay attention to their mouth, look into their eyes and exercise proper etiquette whether it be with a teacher or friend. My family has always taught me to do so and to remain quiet while someone else is speaking. I am seventeen and thus my language usage is not the best, later on in life I hope it will improve the higher up my education escalates. My age definitely affects the way I read, speak and act. Everyday I am learning something I did not know and growing as a person. Most women are born with the ability to read nonverbal communication, it is something that come natural to me. Nonverbal communication is key and oftentimes people give off their emotions without noticing through nonverbal communication which makes it rather important to communication. Effective communication comes with the help of reading those nonverbal signs. For instance, if I am speaking with someone and they seem distracted on something else I know they are not
