The sad part about it all is that I really can’t speak on my father’s side of the family that much because he hasn’t been in my life for over 15 years. I have no relationship with him whatsoever because I gave him a number a chances to be in my life and he never took advantage of that opportunity. Although, I would have liked for him to see me grow up and became the young man I am today he has shown me on numerous occasions that he didn’t see potential in me or my other seven siblings he’d abandoned, some of them I still have yet to meet. I don’t think anyone will ever feel my pain of not having a father figure in their life as much as I had to. No male role model, no guidance just a single mother doing the best she can for her children with no handouts.…

No one ever told me family could be deceiving and ruin your outlook on life, I had to learn that on my own. Growing up as a young black lady, my perspective on life was always pretty straightforward: treat people how you want to be treated, always have God in your heart, and know that there is so much I could achieve. Those cornerstones got me through most of my life. I had always been a charismatic, bubbly, lovable spirit. I was always the favorite child, family members adored me and saw me as ¨the one who is going to make it”.…

This story makes you reconsider the value you might have of family, as it did for me. There are some pretty notable parts of the story that can relate to many people's lives and their relationships with their siblings. For me it’s my sister and how our relationship has evolved over the years. This short story is truly relatable to most people with siblings in some sort of way, brings insight as to why some people grow apart, and can make you think about how a relationship with your sibling is the way it is.…

Foreword Before delving into the prescribed analysis as required by this assignment, I feel it necessary to provide some background as to why I chose this song as I could have seemingly chosen any other just as easily; however, throughout my troubled years, I found myself frequenting not only this song, but the entire album as well. In my younger years, back when i enjoyed the company of my older siblings on a daily basis before their departure to college, we all struggled in our dealings with our alcoholic, emotionally abusive father. Ironically, the broken bonds shared between my father, my siblings and I initiated the bittersweet genesis of the unbreakable bonds I am so lucky to share with each of my siblings. None, however, compare to the relationship my brother and I kindled out of the ashes of our house’s burnt and broken foundation.…
