Overall, my experience reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline has been amazing. The characters, setting, and plot are all used to perfection to really give a not only a story but a experience for the reader. The characters were really good, likeable and had deeper layers to them. Wade Watts and his friends were all funny and had a good relationship together and that really made you want them to succeed. The characters were all very distinct as they all have personal traits that made them stand out. For example Daito and Shoto were loyal and were very close with each other, Aech was funny and supportive, and Ar3mis was confident and a lone wolf. The antagonist the IOI were menacing and made you really feel suspense in situations. The real

This theme is developed through the use of the first gate, the second gate , and the third gate. The start of the hunt gave Wade hope to his future. “The moment I began searching for the egg, the future no longer seemed so bleak” (Cline 19). This shows the impact of the OASIS on Wade as he from that point on was working hard on finding the egg and not giving up like other had. After the confidence that the first gate had given him after all of that hard work he ends up being the last person to find the crystal open the second gate beat it and find the jade key. He never stops trying to find it when eventually Aech Wade's best friend gives him a hint as he can see how hard his friend had worked. Wade was extremely hard on himself after being last. “You’ve got no one but yourself to blame, I told myself. You let success get to your head. You slacked off on your research. What, did you think that lightning would strike twice? (Cline 211). The third gate was what all of that persistence of studying had led to. “I assumed a fake identity and masqueraded as an indentured servant to infiltrate IOI’s corporate headquarters. I’ve been there for the past eight days, I just now escaped (Cline 304). This shows you how Wade will go the extra mile to succeed. To have the dedication to put yourself in jail to be able to beat the third gate.
