Narrative On Segregation In School

Segregation is over, but predujudism is not. Growing up as a white female, I never once guessed I would end up dating a black guy. My parents never really told me I couldn't date a boy of a different skin color, but then again, they never really advised me to either. It all started last December. This was when I first mentioned the idea to my mom. Actually, she was the one who mentioned it to me. My dad always leaves for work before all of us others in the house even wake up. Most mornings we are rushed getting ready for our days, but for some reason on this particular morning, my mom had enough extra time to cook a yummy breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, and oranges; We all had time to sit down and enjoy it together.
I guess my mom had previously overheard me talking about this boy I liked with my best friend, because shortly after I sat down at the table she asked, “Who is this boy you and

When I came home she knew a lot of things about this boy that I never thought she would find out. At least, I hoped she would never find out. A while back, he had failed his drug test. This was the main thing she gathered details about. As a parent, she has a duty to protect me as much as possible. Being that this was one of the few things she knew about him, I can understand why she was so mad about it. She fussed at me for the next several months, and she and my dad did everything they could to keep me away from him. I was constantly getting my phone taken so they could prevent even the slightest communication between the two of us.
My dad was more strict about it than my mom was. One time, I got caught hanging out with this boy when I wasn't supposed to be. When my dad found out he yelled at me and shouted “I will sell your car and kick you out of the house if you ever bring home a black boy.” My dads big reason for me not being able to date him was because of his skin color; He did not know about the failed drug

Supposedly one day while he was laying on her living room floor, she walked past him and intentionally stomped his hair and when she tried to take off running, he grabbed her by her hair. She called the police, and filed charges against him.…

Instead of educating the students on racial disparity the teachers promoted racial segregation. One teacher admitted placing the “rednecks” and the black students on opposite sides, stationing herself in the middle of the classroom to suppress conflict between the two (Hardie 2013). The advanced classes consisted of 98 percent of middle class white students while the “rednecks”, Hispanics and black students attended the classes that were not big on academics showing the racial disparity in the classrooms. The school furthermore showed disparities handing out tardy slips. The black students were likely to receive a slip for coming to class late, even if entering as the bell’s ringing.…

Interracial relationships have been talked and argued about since before even the colonies were established. Three factors affecting the issue of interracial relationships are the Lovings v. Virginia case, the fact that the color of their skin doesn't define them and therefore you should love them anyway, and the disapproval of others even though it should not matter to them. June 1967, changed how people look at interracial relationships. Before the Lovings v Virginia case interracial relationships were illegal, and you would be sent to jail if you were involved in one. June 12, 1967 was a landmark of civil rights with the Lovings v Virginia case.…

Residential segregation has a big impact on today’s society. It creates a downfall in the equality of many non-whites. While many people chose to live with others of the same race, those neighborhoods may not provide the best opportunities. The problem starts with poor education then unemployment or low income then bad relationships which can lead to criminal activity. Historically, non-whites tend to live in poor neighborhoods in which they have a lot of contact with people involved in criminal activity (Walker, Spohn, & Delone, 2012).…

Is Segregation the Answer for Black in America There has been an ongoing debate among black leaders for decades. One side has advocated harmonious integration into American society, while the other side has focused on building a self-imposed segregated society of black people. Although some leaders who support segregation and I may differ on how we see segregation, segregation — in the form of economic isolation — is very necessary. As I worked on this piece, I was faced with a number of truths that are inescapable. One truth is that historically, no group of people have been able to escape oppression without firs achieving economic freedom.…
