“You wanna be able to dunk and grab the rim by the time you are out of highschool right?” Said my Jv coach Ben Perez from Lakeview Schools. There were 6 hoops in our practice gym at Lakeview Elementary. There were 12 kids total on the team so we picked a partner to go a hoop and do the pelican drill for 1 hard minute. Ben said “ready set GO!“ I start going, I was being lazy because I didn't want to do the drill. About 30 seconds into the drill I was getting lazier my Legs were thriving with numbness and my arms were tingling as if your foot fell asleep. He notices that I was being lazy and comes to me and says “ You want to be able to grab rim and be able to dunk right?” I told him “yes”. Then, he said “well use them legs and jump high as if you are trying to jump to the moon and finish the hard,strong,aggressive lay up.” I proceeded to start pushing myself extremely hard. …show more content…
I began to bite my mouth guard that was rubbing against my braces. I began to sweat and having sweat dripping into my eyes and it burned as if I was getting lemon juice into my eyes. I’m going slowly but steadily on making my shirt damp from the amount of sweat and hard work I was putting in to make myself work harder. After that minute of the pelican drill was done I put my hands over my gasping for my breath to come back. A couple seconds after the pelican drill, I started beggining to get the feeling back into my legs. Ben was pushing me for a reason, he wants me to get me to do better and push harder. During the drill I was a kind of getting a little exasperated,but after the drill,deep down in my body, I thought to myself and said “ I couldn’t touch rim before, I may take his advice and push myself harder; I could get to my goal to be able to grab the rim and be able to dunk I'm out of high school” So I decided to change my ways after I moved to
