“Okay” I said. Wait, why did I just say that? She is an early childhood Montessori teacher, and I do not even like little kids. I have been in my mom’s classroom before and some of her kids really got on my nerves. The next thing I know the guidance counselor has already put an internship for third block on my schedule.
On the first day of my junior year of high school I left Central Carolina and headed to Manning Early Childhood Center where my mom works. As I walked down the hallway to room 301 my heart began to pound in my chest and sweat began to form on the palms of my hands. I was so nervous. “What if I hate this” I kept thinking “and I am stuck in here for the rest of the semester?” When I finally reached the door, I walked in and sat next to my mom on the couch while she was doing reading group time with the four-year-olds. For the rest of the block I just observed so that I could see how things worked in a Montessori classroom.
Every day I had certain jobs that I helped my mom do. When I first got there, I would help with reading group by sitting with some of the kids and making sure that they were paying attention. Then, I …show more content…
It has inspired me to think about pursuing a career as an occupational therapist at an early childhood center. In this job, I will work with kids in three-year-old kindergarten through first grade. This internship has had a big impact on my life because up until this I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I am so glad to have gotten the opportunity to not only spend more time with my mom, but also to get to know these
