Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Moving To Texas

Shortly after my eighteenth birthday, I found myself spending a great deal of time escaping a less-than-desirable reality by playing internet role playing games. There was a realization within myself that I needed a change of scenery, so I gathered a few of my prized possessions, purchased a bus ticket and left shortly thereafter to visit a good friend in Texas. What was intended to be a quick turn-around trip turned into the next three years, and little did I know just how much this trip would affect the rest of my life. Moving to Texas was an experience that taught me about the environmental differences between places, added responsibilities and the importance of having caring people in my life. The scenery between Arizona and Texas was …show more content…
I experienced my first two jobs in Texas which awarded me the opportunity to be professional in the workplace, learn people skills and work at being the best that I could be for the companies, as well as for myself. I assumed the responsibilities of paying the household expenses and tending to the household chores. Another key factor was realizing the effort that an adult relationship requires, rather than the puppy love I had known back home during high school. I had little choice but to grow up quickly, but I wouldn’t have traded these experiences for anything in the world. Much like the people from different walks of life that I encountered during my time …show more content…
I make a point to call on the birthdays and holidays to make sure everyone is doing well. Writing about this experience is merely a snapshot of the happenings during that period, but I am forever indebted to the individuals I worked with, lived with, and loved with during my time in Texas. I did an immense amount of growing up, in all aspects of my life. I fear if I had not made the leap to leave my home town those many years ago, I would not be the same person that I am today, and I feel as though all of the happenings of this situation was for the right reasons. To the people, to the environmental changes, to the added responsibilities, I thank you for making me the great person I am

The Federalists who held power in Mexico left me, my fellow armadillos, and the Anglo Americans alone to enjoy and work the land. However, in 1829, the Centralists gained control of the Mexican government and the freedom we enjoyed gradually eroded. Growing up, my family and I weren’t very religious by any means. My parents grew up in Catholic families, but when they moved away from their families, they moved away from God too. Every time we were stationed in a new place, my parents always blamed not going to church on the military and how we would always be moving. My sister and I didn’t mind this, because we didn’t really know what church was, and didn’t understand the meaning of it, but when we moved to Louisiana in 2012, I met a friend that would change this. I met this girl Samantha, who seemed to be in a few of my classes.…

When I was 16 I moved to from California to Texas. During this time, I assume everyone in Texas wears a cowboy hat, boots, talks in a southern accent such as saying y’all and other such stereotypes. I assume the general understanding of Texas from what I was taught as a kid in movies, music, and shows. Once I moved to Texas that that type of thought was used against me, my classmates assume I probably l go to the beach and surf and have met plenty of celebrities when I lived in California. This is an example of REPRESENTATIVENESS HEURISTIC to judge or presume a someone or something relying on past experiences and mental representations to a new situation creating a particular group.…

Unlike many teenagers I didn’t, have a transition period from childhood to teenage years to adulthood, like so many others here in America might have. My life went from a carefree child to being a mature and responsible adult within a matter of months, and here is how it all started. The fact or the matter is that I was born in a refugee camp in Nepal and life wasn’t easy with death and disease looming everywhere. I roamed the streets as carefree as young kid could. Life was normal as I went to school every day, my dad worked countless hours, and my mother stayed home like so many other women in the community.…
