Narrative Essay On Mock Trial

Improved Essays
At the beginning of junior year, I decided to pursue my love for public speaking by joining my school’s Mock Trial team. After successful performances at the Los Angeles Superior Court, I was awarded the Most Valuable Participant Award by the Constitutional Rights Foundation. Our team, however, did not move on to the second round. For me, Mock Trial became more than an extracurricular activity. I was part of a team, a family, that I truly cared about. The following year, I was elected President and made it a priority to make sure that every member improved their public speaking skills. The previous

MS2 Evaluation The aim of my crime drama opening was to conform to the conventions of black comedy, whilst also applying various stereotypes of various forms of crime genres. I intended to appeal to my target audience of 17 and above, through utilising various stereotypical genre conventions. An important aspect to my video was the use of narrative stages and visual techniques. The scenes which have the two men enter the building disrupts the calm, settled, almost harmonious equilibrium between both Darius and Farhoud. This was displayed by the increase in volume of the non-diegetic music playing throughout the scene, juxtaposed to the diegetic, dialogue heavy scenes between Darius and Farhoud.…

AVID Mission Statement My childhood was spent with four women. They constructed a space for me that was void of the manacles of racial standards, an expanse free for me to roam and wallow freely in its immaculate glory. As i endeavored to America, this space shrunk further and further until it had transformed into a cramped chamber. For the first time, I had to grapple with what it meant to be black, to have your skin’s…

The topic of free speech on college campuses currently has been a huge hot button issue in the media, especially in the United States. The controversy this topic brings is deeply rooted in the history of not only higher education, but in the history of the development of this country. Often people are all for freedom of speech, until someone speaks out against them (as a person) or one of their core beliefs. In an effort to give full disclosure here, I believe that I should state that directly after I completed my undergraduate degree I did apply and got into Law School. While I decided not to attend Law School, I do believe that the courses I took on Pre-Law and Constitutional Law had a profound impact on my beliefs.…

The future is never clear, and my own was no exception. Thoughts of what I wanted to do with my life were always followed by uncertainty. During the entirety of my adolescence I always felt overwhelmed by my inability to decide my future, leading to a metastasizing panic in my inabilities to achieve success in any discipline. My transition from childhood fantasies to adult goals was anything but seamless and I often found myself lost, especially in academics.…

if there is one thing college has taught me, it is that it does not matter what you think you are going to become, or how far back you start from, but it is that determination in the place of those disadvantages is what makes all the difference. I did not choose to be a lawyer because anyone in my family was, in fact, no one in my family worked anything close to it. My mother has worked as a waitress, a seamstress in a factory, and finally as a baker since arriving in this country. I took it upon myself to try and become something more, something that my mother did not have the opportunity to be. As the oldest child in a house of three I fulfilled the function of the interpreter in the family, which gave me the sense of responsibility and maturity that came with that role.…

The criminal justice system maintains different goals when attempting to correct deviant and illicit behavior. In accordance to the sentencing guidelines established by United States Sentencing Commission (2011), punitive sentences are to incorporate a purpose for the sentence. Criminal sentencing can be categorized into six areas with distinctive goals: general and specific deterrence, incapacitation, retributive, rehabilitative, and equity/restitution. The sentencing goals are not exclusive and at times overlap in achieving its purpose. Furthermore, one goal is not better than another, but rather one would be more applicable in certain situations than another.…

After my experience, I found that what we talk about in class seems to make more sense to me. My previously held speculation of television courtroom settings has been confirmed as a dramatized recreation, and I feel more comfortable now that I better understand how the legal system works. Another aspect of the experience I really enjoyed was being able to see components of law that we learned about in class within each case. Initially, I was not incredibly excited to dedicated a morning to observing court cases, but I ended up finding myself disappointed when the court adjourned for lunch. Now that I know what a typically courtroom setting really is like, I would not be surprised if I were to return to the courthouse, just to watch and continue to…
