Have you ever woke up and wondered what you should do in your life to make yourself and your family happy. My family wasn't happy about having to live in missouri at the time. One Morning my wife jessica had the idea that we should go to oregon to have a fresh start to to escape from all the problems in missouri. When my 16 year old daughter patty and my 18 year old son James woke up that morning we talked about moving up west. To my surprise they both really wanted to move to oregon and couldn't wait to leave. The next day we packed up enough food to feed ourselves for 8 months and we bought the biggest wagon at the time to haul all of our supplies. We then bought 4 oxen to pull the wagon and a couple of cows. My wife thought we should bring feed for the animals incase there is no spot for the animals to graze. Through everything we had water was what took up most of the space in the wagon. The last thing we packed was supplies to start our own farm when we reach Oregon. …show more content…
The trip took 6 month and was a hard treacherous journey. Some people in our group died from the cold and some got sick and died. We crossed many rivers were some wagons got carried away because of how fast the current was. When we finally arrived we lost 15 of the original 44 wagons that we started out with. We had enough food left over to eat until our farm was producing enough food for us to eat. We traded in our alcohol for cows, chickens and pigs so we can breed them for meat, eggs and milk. Once we got setup with our house, farm and our barn we lived happily ever after

The old settlers were enraged about sharing their lands, resources, and powers with the five tribes. Cherokee brought their government and politics with them except it led to violence and arguing between the two groups on who would be chief. Settlers brought sickness to the new territory, causing a decrease of population. Over the 3 to 6 month journey, 12,000 of the Cherokee survived. A memoir from Private John G. Burnett was saved and he wrote about the journey during November through December, “On the morning of November 17, we encountered a terrific sleet and snowstorm with freezing temperatures and from that day until we reached the end of the fateful journey on March the 26, 1839, the suffering of the Cherokee were awful.…

The journey west was far from easy. The trip it self was a life changing experience for those who risked their lives on the long journey. The hardships were a result of the grueling natural environment of the west, which changed the way the settlers lived their daily lives. Other factors such as the glooming presence of the British, and Native Indians also caused trouble amongst the settlers. Western life was different from the rest of the nation because of the troubles faced by the people, the vast nothingness of the landscape, and conflicts with the British and Indians.…

As the powerful Colorado River churned beneath me, as it has for centuries, and the relentless sun peaked over the top of the North Rim, I could not help but feel astounded. I was in a timeless place: a place disconnected from the society I had left behind miles ago. Down here, in the lowest section of the Grand Canyon, it was just me, my friends, and the heat. Always the heat. We had started our journey, a run from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to the South Rim, at 4 AM in a futile attempt to avoid the skyrocketing temperature and finish before the sun became the determining factor in the success of our venture.…

Some people over packed and had to unload and/or aboard their wagons. Some people didn't have enough food for their animals to pull the wagons so they had to jump over board too. Most people ended up walking by the end of the trail. Most people had emotional damage from leaving most of their family behind. With the windows down, the crisp, cool summer air permeated throughout my body, acquiring every hair to stand at attention. Buffalo surrounded and granged lazily through the corn fields that shot high to the sky, as if every row was assembled soldiers getting ready to march. South Dakota is known for open fields with a consumed, laid back lifestyle with not much ever going on. Going into the trip knowing this, I was not in the least bit excited. It was when I absorbed the laid back atmosphere and appreciated every single bit of their way of life.…

As a young armadillo growing up in Texas during the 1820s, my life was peaceful and happy. The Federalists who held power in Mexico left me, my fellow armadillos, and the Anglo Americans alone to enjoy and work the land. However, in 1829, the Centralists gained control of the Mexican government and the freedom we enjoyed gradually eroded. As the Mexican government imposed more regulations on the Anglo Americans, the tension which had existed between the two groups due to the Nacogdoches land grant, become even more palpable.…

In late October 1846, an early snowstorm stranded twenty-two men, women, and children in Alder Creek Meadow in California's Sierra Nevada. The squall came on so fiercely and suddenly that the pioneers had just enough time to erect sleeping tents and a small structure of pine trees covered with branches, quilts, and the rubber coats off their backs. Living conditions were crowded, and their wool and flannel clothes were useless against leaks and the damp ground. As the days wore on, seasoned wood became so hard to find that the stranded pioneers, known as the Donner Party, were often without fire for days. Huddled under makeshift shelters, the migrants had eaten charred bone and boiled hides until they turned to more desperate measures to survive.…
