On a hot summer’s day, I received a letter in the mail saying that I got into a college named The Mariah Paulk College of the Arts. I was not familiar with that college; although, I have a feeling my mom did the application process for me. I decided to do my research on the school and found out that it was ranked the number one Ivy League school in the world; I was astonished. This time mom, doing something without my permission actually worked out. However, three months later I was off to The Mariah Paulk College of the Arts. It took me two hours to arrive at the school and off I head to orientation. The woman that was speaking was dull and I all I was thinking about was the dorms and finding out who my suitemates are. Nevertheless, orientation ended at 4:35pm, but it started at …show more content…
I opened the door and peeked my head inside, there were three girls sitting in the living room. A girl with dreadlocks, and glasses introduced herself first and her name was Diamond, the girl beside her also had glasses and her name was Jada May, and lastly there was Miranda.
They certainly seemed friendly and I hoped I would get along with all of them. I started to unpack my clothes and asked my mom if she could pray over me. She was praying that I would not forget my morals and values while being at college and continue to give God all the glory and praise. When she was done praying she told me she needed to get home before it got dark and asked the girls if they could help get my room set up and everyone said that it was no problem. The next day it was time for my first day of classes and quite honestly, I did not even feel like waking up. I got out my bed to take a shower but unfortunately my roommate Miranda had been in the shower already. I waited one hour for her to get out of the shower and ended up being late for my first class. I could tell me and Miranda were going to have problems if this

(Angel)ine The day Angeline came into my life I didn’t expect for her to change it. One day in mid-December my mom, my brother, Angeline and I were sitting in Angeline’s living room. We were there for somewhat of a prayer visit, to talk with and help each other through God with problems we may need a third-party perspective on. I was silent most of the time because I wasn’t used to or particularly interested in being there.…

Five or Four Days in School When it comes to our students’ education, we always should pay extra attention to the decisions that we make, especially if the decisions that we’re going to make are weighty and could have an impact on our students’ educational performance. In Jaclyn Melicharek’s article “Four-Day School Weeks: The Rule to Skip School,” she makes several claims against the four-day school policy, which is a convenient policy that seems to pervade our schools nowadays. She believes four-day school policy is ineffective and rather harmful to our students, teachers and staff because it reduces our students’ educational performance, deters the academic value that our students are obtaining and shatter the lives of the teachers and…

My primary thoughts towards Gordon College were created during a prospective student day. It turned out to be a negative experience that created a pessimistic view of this school and carried on my cynical view of Christians. It’s important because had I continued with my previous bias I would have attended a secular college which may have been a positive experience but would have definitely lead to a drastically different life.…

For all of my life, building close relationships has been the key to my success. I form relationships successfully in a small, comfortable setting. In school, classrooms are an accessible way for myself to accomplish this with my teacher. For every teacher I was close to, the class I had with them was my top class. One of the main reasons I chose Clarkson College was because I admired it was a private college with a limited student to teacher ratio.…

I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

I walked briskly on a summer morning on the sidewalk to my college campus, Yale! I had been accepted in the middle of my Canby high school days because of my excellent grades, leadership skills, and my confidence in speeches. One other person had been accepted in my grade at that time named Tanya, but rumor has it that her father works in the staff and influenced the principal's decision with some ‘green paper’. Ever since 5th grade, she has taken my ideas into her projects, wowing the teachers and getting perfect grades. One time in middle school I caught her fumbling through my locker searching through my binder to find my lab notes during lunch.…

For many students, stress seems to walk hand in hand with college applications; From writing essays to taking various standardized tests, attempting to get into college takes hard work, and sometimes it can all come crashing down when the infamous rejection letter arrives in the mail. After being turned down from the colleges of her dreams, Suzy Lee Weiss wrote the article “To (All) the Colleges That Rejected Me” which describes how colleges lie about their expectations of applicants. The author writes that colleges expect much more than they actually say they are looking for, and that acceptance is biased towards certain people or qualities. The arguments made by this author tend to lack proper supporting evidence and also include multiple logical fallacies which ultimately make her case against college admissions ineffective.…

On a sweltering summer day in the City of Atlanta or the “ATL” as it is affectionately known today, I visited my best friend while he visited his father for the summer. That day I remember vividly because as soon as we stepped outside of the airport to take the “MARTA” train, I began to sweat profusely. Anyone that has been to Atlanta during the summer knows it is incredibly humid there. A week earlier I had seen my friend, and we planned out what we were going to do that week I visited. I knew I wanted to visit Spellman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College, but before I could visit the Atlanta University Center or the “AUC” as it is called to the locals, I felt compelled to visit the grave site of one of the most influential human being to walk this earth.…

Every year in the month of April, Shelly’s school puts on their annual college fair. Schools that attend are from a wide variety of education styles, parts of the country, academic standard, and cost of education. All throughout high school Shelly has been a 4.0 student and almost got a 4.1 her sophomore year due to the advanced classes she decided to take, so she shouldn’t have an issue getting into school, right? Dartmouth College, Stanford, Princeton, Yale University, and Harvard University were among some of the top colleges to visit her school that day. Being the type A person Shelly was, she made a list of each college session she wanted to attend, with room to write notes under as well as a list of schools she could care less about, and that list included schools such as Portland Community College, Lane Community College, Clackamas Community College, and the rest of community colleges in her area.…
