It all started on a very hot day over the summer. Callie had been working at the pool as a lifeguard for five months now. Today her boss had told her that a couple new lifeguards would be joining them to begin the summer session. All of the current lifeguards were suddenly worried about the new guards coming in. They wondered if they would know what to do if something happened and if they would all get along. Even with their worries they still welcomed all of the new guards and were excited to start the summer. Little did Callie know that one of those new lifeguards would eventually become her husband.

One by one the new guards introduced themselves. One in particular caught Callie’s attention.
“My name is James. I’ve worked at a pool previous to this, so I know how to take chemicals and I am not worried about anything happening to a patron in the pool or on deck. I will only be here for a couple months due to me leaving for basic training in August for the Air Force.”
“Hi I’m Callie I’ve been a lifeguard here for five months. I am one of the head guards so if you have any problems or concerns about anything you can ask me. I am very excited to begin this summer with some new guards. This will be a new experience for some of you, others it will be just like any other day. Now let's open the pool and have some fun.”
As the day went on everyone got to know each other better. They were forming new friendships that they did not know they would form that day. After closing the pool and putting everything away Callie said everyone was to go sit at the table they were having a meeting.
“Well, today was a good first day of the outdoor pool being open. As a tradition we go to Culver’s after the first day and after every in-service.
