Dirt was homogenous with everything; a thin layer in the air making it a constant dust storm and inches coated the buildings. All the buildings looked like they were still in the beginning stages of construction even though they had been up for years. People aimlessly strolled beside the segments of the demolished buildings. Men in camouflage trekked alongside the musty dirt roads carrying massive duffels full of ammunition. Children stained in muck race up to the nearest cars and plead for some spare change. My 8-year-old self was astounded by the living conditions of these people. Comprehending such a complex imbalanced system was near impossible until I was educated enough. …show more content…
Simple tasks, like going to the bank, became the Hunger Games. Members of the Islamic Militia become the game makers while the citizens participated in the imbalanced arena. Citizens must succumb to the odd rules laid out and pan out the safest route possible. Two Women walked past me, and purchased my mother's white puffy wedding dress, that I thought would one day be endowed to me, for as little as nothing. Watching with teary eyes the now empty living room, I knew that my parents were serious about leaving Persia and moving to an unpopular destination, China. rooted in persian culture and courtesy, with a limited view of the world, at only eight years of age, never could have I imagined the events, and experiences that future had in store for me. Driving from the airport to my new home through the hustling, bustling streets of Beijing, I was filled with excitement as I saw through the window the passing lights, tall buildings, and copious bicycle riders. Nonetheless my excitement soon subsided when I faced a language barrier when trying to play and…

Any ditch, pothole, crack, is filled with trash. On the sides of the street there is people sitting outside of their dilapidated houses and shops, there’s children running around half clothed, dogs and chickens scavenging for any food they can, goats laying on graves, vendors selling trinkets they’ve made and drinks like Coke and Toro. There were people making food like grilled goat, and plantains. I could smell the intoxicating scent of beans and rice cooking in big, black kettles over a hot open. Finally, we arrived at the orphanage and were greeted by dozens of children, all smiling and ready to play.…

In Khaled Hosseni’s The Kite Runner, Hosseni uses biblical illusions to show the transformation of Amir’s character from a coward to a courageous man. The second allusion, Abraham and Isaac, represents Amir sacrificing Hassan to get his fathers acknowledgement. The last allusion, Cain and Abel, shows Amir’s jealousy, curse and his betrayal to Hassan.…

To me this book is all about courage, it starts with Hassan and the way he would stand up for Amir when they were kids like, when Hassan pointed the slingshot at Assef and his friends when they were threatening Amir. Then when Amir has grown up he goes back and Hassan's son who has lost his parents due to the Taliban shoots Assef in the eye when he was hurting Amir. The third moment of great courage in the book is when Amir stands up for Sohrab when General Taheri calls Sohrab a Hazara boy. When Hassan and Amir were friends they were close, Amir would read Hassan stories, and even though Hassan was Amir's servant they still hung out all of the time, they would fly kites together and go to movies.…
