I was enjoying a hundred-degree day when my father decided to bless it by telling us to continue working on a car. Reluctantly, I got away from a pleasant breeze, courtesy of the hard-working desk fan, and headed out into the garage. From there, I searched for common tools that we might need while reassembling the engine. Although I was under the protection of my garage, I was not safe from the blaring heat as the amount of metal around me seemed to only amplify it. Thoroughly working through multiple thought-provoking situations taught me to keep cool while performing any task.
As I began searching for tools, I burned my hands with tools that I presumed to be cool enough to touch as a small bit of sun was hitting it. It was …show more content…
Think about it, if one were to wait a good thirty minutes in the Arizonian heat with an occasional hot breeze knowing that their partner is enjoying a chilled environment set to their choosing, one would lose motivation as well! My brother arrived after what seemed like ages, in the heat, so we immediately got to work. We had planned to align the timing belt and touch up some other items to finish up early for today. We set up the toothed gears and prepared the torque wrench to to tighten the screw to its specified torque. I got into position to tighten it but since I was tired and generally tired of sulking in the heat, I failed to notice that there was some sharp part of the engine was sticking out about five inches. I pulled and by doing so I cut my arm about three inches long and a sixteenth-of-an-inch deep; It was enough to get me out of the state of mind that I was in but it …show more content…
My brother offered to tighten the rest of the screws so I let him. As I sat there waiting to hear two more clicks from the torque wrench, I thought back to my actions prior and my attitude towards my work and realized that I was not working as efficiently as I could have been because of my lousy attitude. For the moment, it was thrown away as we had to put the timing belts on the gears which is always a pain as I would have to fit the belt on three gears without moving the gears enough for them to move out of alignment. This is nearly impossible as the gears are bound to shift significantly due to the force that one would apply to the timing belt. Apart from that, the part that pisses me off is when I would finally manage to fit the belt on the third gear, it can pinch your finger if you are not home. If you don't have a fine tip of any sort, you’ll have to pull your finger from the locked jaws of the timing belt. Furthermore, I had my brother to help me out this time which I was grateful for as we sort of finished in a timely manner. This was due to our
