During middle school, I wanted to be seen as popular and to have all the cool things like everyone else had, but the person I wanted to be just wasn’t the real me. In the story, a young girl is struggling with the same thing I am. She is doing all these activities that she doesn’t really care for because she wants to find her place and fit in. I felt the same way and thought if I pretend to be something I'll finally fit in, but I shouldn’t have to have these clothes or be on the cheerleading squad to fit in. I am who I am and that is all that matters. Being yourself is more important than being popular and you should be who you are and not care what anyone thinks.

I had a time in my life where I felt as lost as she did and couldn’t find the place I felt like I belonged. I felt like I was lost in the dark and couldn’t find my way to the light. In the story, a quote really popped out to me and made me feel like I wasn’t alone anymore. The quote is “ It takes courage to grow up and become who you are.” - E.E Cummings.
