internship is not what I thought it would be, but in the best way possible. When I first accepted my internship, I was a little nervous. I have heard both good and bad about DHR, and I was in fear of what I heard. I was also in fear of not being able to get as much experience as the other interns since I would be the third intern that they accepted at my agency. But to my surprise in the last few weeks that I have been here I have been proven wrong about all my thoughts prior to starting. So far, I can definitely say that I love the DHR that I’ve been placed at. The reasons why I love it is because every day that I go to my internship I am greeted with a big smile along with a hello, and all the workers are always helpful and friendly. Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

It was always my goal. Ever since I went to a debate camp there over the summer, I knew I wanted to go to Stanford. The worst part of it all was that I actually, genuinely, wholeheartedly believed that I could. I believed that I was different. Although statistics might have suggested otherwise, I thought that the acceptance rates of nearly four percent didn’t apply to me, the academic prodigy from downtown Detroit.…

In January, when I first started my internship at the Mansfield Youth Services Bureau, I was unsure of whether or not it was the type of placement I was in search of. When I first reached out to the Director of Youth Services, Pat Michalak, it was with the intention that I would be placed in a position where I could gain hands-on experience working with youth, ages 18 and under, but that was not what was available to me at the time. The bureau’s two initiatives that allow for direct involvement with youth, Big Friends and COPE, had already been filled at the beginning of the school year. However, Pat was so intrigued by my e-mail of inquiry that she did not wish to lose me as an intern.…

After graduating high school in 2008 my parents gave me two options, go to college or get a job. However, going to college also meant getting a job as well because I still needed some income. I decided that community college was a better fit for me because I didn 't exactly excel in high school. When I enrolled at SUNY Adirondack in the fall of 2008 I was a Liberal Arts major because I still wasn 't sure what I wanted to be when I grew up.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

In high school I was known as the student who never needed to study in order to get good grades, unfortunately that changed once I entered college. College opened my eyes academically, socially and more importantly it introduced me to different aspects of life and myself.
