It was dawn turning dusk and 1987. Andrew, Arnold, and Anthony were getting tucked into bed. Their parents Randy and Ross kissed them goodnight and went downstairs. Slowly, the kids fell asleep into their comforting beds. They couldn’t stop thinking about the warm sunny summer days ahead of them. All of the sudden, a loud alarm went off. The kids got out of bed and smelled some smoke. They inferred it was a fire and did the precautions their parents said to do when there was a fire. They all met at the mailbox anxiously waiting for their amazing parents but sadly they hadn’t shown a sign they were still alive. Finally, a fire truck that had “Crathco Firestation of Kansas City” on its front, quickly stopped and firefighters ran inside the brothers’ …show more content…
According to the tests, Detective Ranson and Davis found out the firefighter who was out of the crowd had fingerprints on the match, other firefighters, and the note. Also, because of this evidence, Detective Ranson’s hunch was not supported. Later that day, one of the police came running over to the detectives with another clue. He had found a key under the firefighter, not with the group. Another police also found a door under the group of firefighters. Detective Ranson and Davis quickly tried to see if the key fit into the hole, and it did. Ranson noticed he unlocked it to that gave him a hunch that the firefighter out of the group locked the group of firefighters in a room. Ranson also thought that the firefighter out of the group was part of this arson but didn’t get out of the building on time. Detective Ranson was still confused why he was in a firefighter …show more content…
My brothers were such wimps as kids. I knew they would listen to big brother and become a criminal like me even though they were kind of forced. I got real lucky that Arnold died in that fire and my adopted parents changed my last name. I was so mad stupid Davis figured out my rope hunch He was so annoying I just wanted to burn him. They also had temporary anger issues when I was quieter and didn’t like to speak. Crathco Fire Station was what really got to me. All my life, I’ve had to keep the pain inside me and it all just came burning out. I am so glad that fire station disintegrated to ashes because that’s what they deserve. I still can’t believe no one has suspected me, the detective who has burned inside for many

I am a woman. I am a firefighter. Oftentimes it feels like those two statements were never meant to be said together, but I say them proudly. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve had to smile politely or laugh awkwardly when a stranger hurled a cliché in my direction, I’d be quite wealthy. It’s not easy being a firefighter.…

Fire service culture needs to change because too many firefighters are injured or killed because of simple things like not wearing seat belts or not wearing proper protective gear. Firefighters are even defending themselves in court due to cases of harassment or discrimination. It must be possible to change the culture. All of these bad outcomes are preventable, but they need to be made at the department level and not just at an individual level.…

The state of California has a program that allows inmates from prison to be put through a two week course so they can help fight wildfires. Normally, this is just for “minimum-security inmates with no history of violent crimes that can participate.” The numbers of inmates in the firefighting unit have dropped in California due to overcrowding in prisons. To help the inflation, they are keeping people in jails around the state. Their job is to handle the tools to “chew through brush and timberland to create firebreaks to stop advancing flames.”…

The short stories, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien and “The Fireman’s Wife” by Richard Bausch have resonated with me after reading them this semester. I am able to draw similarities from what I’ve read and associate them with the story. Doing so made what I read capture my full attention and transport me into the story. Also, I discovered and tackled flaws in my own character in the process. I found both of these short stories to have been thought provoking and an interesting read as well.…

The book “The Fire Next Time,” by James Baldwin, was a novel that gave me a great insight into the chaos that was going on in America during the 1960’s. The way Baldwin describes the aggravation felt by all African Americans during this time period made me feel like I was personally experiencing it with them. From the financial and social hardships they faced, it was never an easy life for people of color. If it was not for the many lives risked and lost for their equality, America would not be where we are today.…

I was unable to locate an online resource about an established code of ethics for emergency services personnel in the state of Arizona. As a substitute, I chose to adopt the firefighter code of ethics listed on FEMA.gov website and authored by the National Society of Executive Fire Officers. This white paper document outlines the integrity and professionalism that it has grown to become and recognize by the communities it serves. The firefighter code of ethics establishes the groundwork for proper professionalism and behavior for firefighters to maintain and continue to cultivate their high standards of ethical integrity in their field.…
