Distracted driving is a dangerous and common problem today. My mother is especially terrible about staying focused on the road. It’s understandable that a mother of three is busy and -has to learn to multitask, but not when it comes to driving. She’s had countless fender-benders, traffic violations, and close calls. One of her most famous incidents happened a few years ago. On this day, my mom had forced me to go grocery shopping with her at Wal-Mart. It was the summer before my parents had separated; they had been fighting constantly and with vigor. So when my dad had called my mom while we were loading groceries in the car, things got heated quickly. She stopped loading and started screeching into the phone in the middle of the parking lot. I quickly threw everything into the back of our car, and ducked into the front seat to ride out the embarrassing public display. After ten minutes of arguing she hung up and got into the car. At this point, she was already fuming, and to make matters worse my dad kept calling. She picked it back up as she started the car, sitting there for a few minutes just arguing with my dad again, but not pulling out. I was tired and embarrassed and just wanted to go home so I told her to go. She pulled on the gear shift, with the phone still propped up to her ear. She didn’t check behind her …show more content…
I was having a rough time suppressing my grin throughout this woman’s tirade. Eventually the woman picked up her stuff and sped off in her own vehicle and the crowd dispersed. My mom got back in the car with shaking hands and wide eyes. All of the sudden she starts doing this weird half-laugh, half-cry. After she calmed down a bit, I couldn’t help point out how hilarious the entire event was. My mother was grateful that she hadn’t murdered a woman and laughed along with
