Event 1

It was a cold wednesday and i had just got off the bus. I was so nervous for tonight's dance recital. I had been practicing for a whole nine weeks for this solo and I was so afraid i was going to mess up. All day at school 7 hours and 40 minutes just thinking of how i was probably going to fail at this performances. Also i had people from the state of louisville come see me dance. 4th block came and the bell was one minute away from ringing i was so nervous it felt like i had butterflies in my stomach. The recital was at 7:30 tonight and i was still nervous. The nervousness kinda came down when we were all dancing and having fun, eating just doing us. It was 7:00 and i had to run my piece. Mr.Davis my dance teacher said, “If you don't

I was a bit nervous because I'm always in trouble and always doing something. I obviously got some news I didnt wanna hear. I was moving schools. Also moving to different neighborhood. I was kinda mad because I was going to be leaving my friends and also family. As we are moving I told my friends that I was going to a different school. They were pretty upset and they were all saying if it's okay with you then it's okay with me. My last day at Lawrence Central was on a thursday on a marron day. I had to leave early, but it was cool spending my last day with my with my dance class. I had to leave at the end of the day to go see my new school. My came and picked me up that day and took me my new school. Mt.Vernon High School. When my mom told me about this school I did some research. It seemed like a really good school. I think looks are really deceiving so i really don't know what to expect. Once I got there the school was kinda big, once you walk in its very narrow. I saw my counselor and she was so nice and welcoming. She gave me and my brother our classes and showed us around the school. We left after that and our first day was going to be monday. Monday comes by so fast like god wanted me to start school so soon. I had to go to the bus at 7:45, that too early. Once i got to school i was so lost I just went to the cafeteria and went to class. I didn't know where the class was. The scheduled there is so weird at my old school i had 8 classes and they alternated and this school has 4 class and they dont alternate. The classes are everyday for a whole nine

I have seen the first one you mention though not the second--thank you. Unfortunately the clip of excerpts is missing the solo I remember--where the movement seemed to flow through her body like a force of nature--it was as if she became a rippling stream. Sounds absurd, but that's what it looked like to me! Just a side note about youtube and video: I live far from the centers of the ballet world and depend on youtube for much of my ballet watching these days--I have even formed some provisional opinions, likes and dislikes, based on youtube videos.…

My hardest subject started to get even harder. There was so many stairs. Nobody was considerate enough to apologize for bumping into you in the hallway. Everyone wanted to use your locker to stick stuff in and ended up leaving it a mess. If it was hot outside it was extremely hot and smelly in the school.…

Back in Blue Springs I was in “the crowd”.…

Hi Ms. Pierce, Hope you had a wonderful break and a nice day, The word I would use to describe my break is deciphering because I got a break from dance and school. For example, I was able to sleep to try to avenge the early wakings during school days and early dance practices. In addition to that, I had nothing to be concerned about. Having a break from both school and dance gave me time to think about myself and what I wanted for my future; besides, I was able to unwind. The time I had was crucial to me because sometimes in the middle of all the activities in the year I have no time to think.…

I wanted to keep my book sack light, but to do this I had to make a few trips to my locker every day. It would definitely take me a minute or two because of the crowd, and I felt my locker just pointing and laughing at me as I tried to approach it. Despite the students rummaging through the halls, I was able to attend my classes on time. Of course, the first day of high school was mostly what I expected it to be like. It feels nice to have a fresh start, with some great teachers that certainly look forward to teaching me, and I most surely look forward to learning from…

It had always been a dream of mine to enter high school and be not only a member of the dance team, but an officer or a colonel. Since I am an experienced, competitive dancer and have been dancing since I was 3, becoming a member of the team was fairly simple, but I knew becoming an officer would be a challenge. I became a member of the team my freshman year and instantly fell in love with the change of environment. When sophomore year arose, being apart of the team became tedious, but my yearning passion to become a captain continued my intense drive.…

I have always wanted to dance. For as long as I can remember I have looked on at a world I was not allowed to enter. Until I was thirteen financial hardship kept me from being able to take dance lessons. I was ecstatic when my mother finally let me go sign up for a class once a week. Soon I began wanting more and more, as a late starter I knew it was important to get the best training I could in order to catch up to my peers.…

The large speakers that surround the filled room begin to vibrate as the loud unknown voice begins to announce my name. I now know that it is my time to shine. While standing behind the long, red curtains I begin to do what comes natural; lifting my head as if I am looking above and beyond the ceiling that lies above me with a smile projecting from my face, standing tall with strong energy from my toes to the tips of my fingers and pushing my shoulders back to respectfully greet my judges. The adrenaline pounds in my chest, but confidence over powers and I am nothing but ready to entertain my audience. The loud roars of encouraging chanting and cheering rings in my ears as I walk towards the spotlight that gives off a warm radiant heat where I hit my beginning position.…

As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…

In dance, you learn quickly that without pure dedication and drive you will never be successful. While talent can come naturally, skill and technique only come with hard work. I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…

in my first essay I had wrote about my experience working on my high schools Dance Marathon. it was easier for me to write about my first essay because sit was about me and figuring out what I wanted to do with my life.with writing about this event I had started from the start and then skipped into the later stages of putting the event together, then talking about the event. I didn’t find anything about myself in this essay because of the fact that I had already wrote about this in high school. in my second essay I had wrote about whether or not heading should be allowed in soccer. I chose to write about this because soccer has played a big part in my life so finding something about soccer to argue was easy for me.…

Ballet has always been near and dear to my heart, so much so that I took a year off from high school to pursue it on a professional level. During my year away I came to the firm conclusion that there was far more in life I cared to pursue then the four-mirrored walls I had come to know as home. I was lucky enough to find an amazing high school with a specialized “pre-med” program, the director with whom I have come to know far more as a mentor than as a teacher. Dr. Carlos Pulido is one of the wisest men I have met to date, a retired chief of surgery and certified army trauma surgeon, he is a remarkable example of all I hope to achieve in my life.…

Adorned with a tutu and pink carousel umbrella, I stood in the wings like a statue waiting for my music to play. I was five years old, my tape was lost in the mix, and I was terrified. That day I walked out onto the stage clenching my umbrella for dear life and completed my first ballet performance without a single hiccup. The show went on. And on for fourteen more years until finally abandoning the barre for academics in pursuit of another field highly focused on the body; medicine.…

From my last year of study, there has not been much that has changed from my perception of ballet. So far, I noticed that I made progress in improving my technique as well as having a clearer focus while learning the combinations in class. I want to improve in whatever way possible to make sure that I can keep on top of my technique, especially since I look forward to striving forward through this semester as a continuation of last semester. On the first day back of the new semester, I already knew that I wanted to break some of the bad habits that I had and wanted to find any way possible to make the goals a primary focus. Even though I have my strengths and weaknesses, I want to further myself this semester to grow as a dancer by breaking some old habits that are holding me back.…
