Narrative Essay On Community College

Now, in my youth it was common for me to attend school and solely achieve the minimum when it came to grades. As an only child my mother was simply grateful I was able to pass a course and excel into the following middle school and high session. I’m embarrassed to say that those ideals led into my first few semesters of Community College; I was at a point in my life where school and receiving an education just wasn’t for me which led to me dropping all of my courses and entering the work force. I quickly learned that the life I was living, being a full time employee for Apple Inc. wasn’t what I wanted as a career and I choose to return to Nassau. Luckily my current employer, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, has been extremely supportive and accommodating

I have always been independent, but I fully seeked independence when I was 16 years old. This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. This meant I was finally able to go out on my own and not rely on others to take me places anymore. In the year of 2016, I also began taking classes at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute to earn college credits.…

Community College Education We all know the costs to attend a college is a burden to everyone who has a low income. College costs have skyrocketed over the past decade, and there is a gap between tuition and family finances. According to the White House, “[They] have a straight forward plan to remove that barrier and expand the pathway to the middle class-by bringing the cost of community colleges down-down to zero. Zero-for anyone willing to work for it and for the institutions that meet certain basic requirements.”…

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

In my education, I want neither too rigid of a core curriculum nor to loose of one. Yale has the perfect middle where there is a third part of the curriculum that is my choice, allowing me to study my other interests outside the range of my major. Also, after visiting Yale, I found the welcoming environment for which I was looking, especially with residential colleges. Having my residential college chosen for me is appealing as well as the great things in each of the colleges like the Buttery and movie theaters that I heard…

It is estimated that the number of students currently enrolled in community college is about 7.4 million, with each student paying an average $3,500 per year for tuition (Hosansky). Many students are attending community colleges instead of a traditional four-year university in order to reduce the treacherous mountain of student debt, about $39,950 on average, that they face once they graduate (Konczal). Because of the large amount of debt that students are facing, President Barack Obama has requested that students get free community college as long as they meet certain requirements:…

Once upon a time I was in an enclosed elevator in Hecht Residential College at the University of Miami. As I stood there, I noticed several interesting things, such as everyone who entered were either already on their phones or immediately took them out, all not brave enough to interrupt the awkward silence. I was particularly intrigued by the resident assistants, dressed in fishnet stockings and morph suits, handing out candy to each student who entered the elevator. They were the only ones unafraid to disrupt that awkward silence. Suddenly, I had a revelation.…

He then asked me what's my plan.…
