We got to experience trying to communicate with a waiter who did not know American Sign Language (ASL). We ended up just pointing at the things we wanted, but he seemed very confused about the whole situation and continues to trying and ask us questions. Throughout dinner we used ASL to communicate with each other. Which went well, until we did not know the sign for a word and had to look it up or use a similar sign that we already know. After practice with my coach I decided to drive back to campus and I tried started my car, but I couldn’t hear it start so I just held it. Which I finally realized it started after the second or third time of trying, that was pretty scary because I thought my car broke down again. It really opened my eye to the fact that deaf and hard of hearing people cannot hear when their car is having a problem like hearing people. They cannot hear when their car does not start, the alternator fails, or they need an oil change. After the struggle of just turning my car on, I became very cautious of my surroundings. Constantly checking for lights and movements that I did not
