Narrative Essay On Chris Hemmings

After five years away, Chris had expected to feel a out of place in Galena, but after being back just a few days, he was feeling more at home than he ever had in LA. He loved his job, there was no doubt about that, and felt blessed to have come so far so quickly, but he could already tell that his decision to take a few months off had been a good one.

The hype from his latest lead role was finally dying down and the last few months had just been a string of unsuccessful auditions - it was a sign, really. At least that’s what Chris had said to his manager, Eliza Hemmings, who’d taken quite a lot of convincing. She’d come around in the end, agreeing that “taking time to reconnect with his roots,” as the official statement said, would be a smart

Over the last few days he’d caught up with a few old friends and mentors around town, and had even been roped into helping out with the local high school musical for a few weeks, but there was still one thing he knew he had to do. Getting out around own with his family had brought back a lot of childhood memories; some he embraced, and others he pushed to the back of his mind. Why ruin a nice day out with all the doubts and what ifs? But here he was, wandering the quiet streets alone, and there was one thing on his mind: …show more content…
There was a young girl sitting at one of the tables, engrossed in her colouring book. Chris smiled softly - she was clearly the daughter of one of the employee’s, and there was something so sweet and charming about the fact that they’d bring her to work, and that she’d sit there so patiently. Of all the different ways he’d considered this little venture might play out, this scenario had never crossed his

The Unfavorable Ideals of Chris McCandless Although many may see Chris’ ideas as brave, or noble: to go against the standards of human society, take his own path. I do, however, beg to differ, seeing his ideals as unfavorable. Chris was not only in a false guru-like state, seeing his ideas as the correct way and aggressively disagreeing with the opposite as shown in the Into the Wild movie when simply offered a new car by his parents.…

In the (Karen Olsson, 606) it states that Wal-Mart is a frenetic, fast-paced, environment and it seems, there simply aren’t enough people around to get the job done. On a given shift McLaughlin might man a register, hop a mechanical lift to retrieve something, from a high shelf, catch fish from a tank, run over to another department to help locate an item, restock the shelves, dust off the bike racks, or field questions about potting soil and lawn mowers. In other words, employers in her situation are accustomed to basically working in every department of the store. In the beginning of the story the author, Karen Olsson, began by letting us know that employee, Jennifer McLaughlin, was a 22-year-old with a one-year-old baby and living with…

We sat on the hot metal of the bleachers outside of the baseball field. The rainy days of Spring were replaced with the sweltering heat of the Summer, and hearing the clink of a baseball hit a bat in the Summer had become a tradition for almost five years. My older brother Dakota had spent those years being bombarded by sweat, mud, and the encouragement of his family, friends, and coaches when the team needed to hit a ball or when he wanted to show off how much better he had gotten since the last season. We were all ready for the season to be over so that we could plan our almost yearly trip to Virginia to visit our Aunt, Uncle, and our almost overwhelming blue-eyed cousins, Liam and Carlile. When the baseball season had come to a happy--or sad--ending, we would plan the trip and be piling into the car within the next week or two, to go on the getaway…

Chris McCandless is still talked about today 24 years after his death because of the controversy surrounding him, Jon Krakauer along with people like Ken Sleight characterize Chris as a one of the bravest people in the world for venturing off into the wilderness by himself to fulfill his dreams meanwhile people like Craig Medred believe that Chris was naive and foolish, and deserved death. At the end of the day, I believe that Chris’ adventure was unsuccessful and was not a great story like Sleight might describe it to be because despite how brave he was for following his dangerous dreams, his hubris attitude which caused his lack of preparation overshadows his bravery. Showing that bravery and arrogance are two qualities that do not go hand…
