Narrative Essay (Personal)
It was a hot Sunday near the end of May of 2011, my brother and I were playing catch outside when my friend came over to hang out. We discussed what we should play, I thought that we should play a game called 500, which was where you threw the ball up in the air and if you caught it you would get a certain amount of points, until you reached 500. My brother was a more creative and thought of a game he called “Bigfoot” which I guess was a game where you chased the person who was “Bigfoot” and if you caught him you would become Bigfoot. I thought it was stupid so I said, “I think 500 is better, and someone’s going to get hurt.” My brother replied with, “Don’t be such a baby.” My friend added, “Let’s just play it.”

After we chose who was it which was my brother we started playing, my brother was running ahead of us, and then my friend would be in front and I would stay in back to watch if my brother was going to try to lap me. I was actually having fun and getting into the game when we started running faster so I thought my friend was getting close to my brother and I turned the corner to see across the fence my brother was almost caught by my friend so I started gaining even more speed, but then I slipped right by the corner of my neighbors fence and BANG! Everything was black for a split

Watching “Bigfoot Videos”, during my lunch hours, rekindled curiosity concerning the Bigfoot. Researching the subject, I found several accounts that claimed the Bigfoot would sometimes make what is known as a “whoop call.” Visiting Bigfoot research websites that contained alleged recordings of the “whoop call” , I said to myself, “next time I go out in the woods, I might try to imitate this call to see what might occur.” I did not think I would ever receive a response, but what the heck, it never hurts to try.…

Ron Carlson’s short stories, Bigfoot Stole My Wife and I am Bigfoot, provide two different perspectives of a situation, in which readers can try to differentiate the truth from reality. The statement given describes that not every truth told is what actually happened, instead it is subjective to a person’s opinion of what is occurring and what they choose to believe. Reality on the other hand is objective, where it is not impartial to one side, separating what is created from imagination and what is real. Before reading these short stories that give insight that presents different viewpoints, I conclude that truth and reality were similar to each other. However, after realizing the concept of not always believing what you are told, and to question if it is a fact or what one thinks is true, I consider that truth and reality are…
