It gives you professional growth because you get to work with and guide someone who may have a different background. Mentoring also enhances skills, in particular, it will enhance your leadership skills. You will also be able to create an image for other mentors to follow which will help them in being able to impact the mentees correctly. Mentoring can also be beneficial for the mentees. For many it will help with their social skills, academic skills, and help mold them into the person they will become. The mentees look forward to the visits, you become a friend to them. Even in some cases whether you don’t succeed in helping them academically they will always remember having you around. In elementary it is growing time for them, the time forming them into knowing right from wrong. You become a role model to them, so you have to the best you that you can be.
I strongly encourage many others to get involved in mentoring. Although there are many rewarding experiences, becoming a mentor is truly a big decision. When deciding whether mentoring is for you don’t take it lightly because not only is this experience going to affect you but as well as your mentees.
