Back when I was 14, I used to be a catcher in a baseball little league team in the Dominican Republic. Like many Dominicans, I was passionate about this sport. My inspiration was Yadier Molina, a catcher that had a graceful arm and tremendous style; displaying his abilities by throwing out most of the players who tried to steal a base. No catcher in the baseball league could play the position like me, despite being only 14. Everyone said that I had a free pass to become a professional; my future was almost established.

They were talking about the New York Yankees. He opened the phone lines so people could call and give their opinions. Everyone was saying that the Yankees were going to win 100 games because they had a powerful team with popular names on their roster. I had a completely different opinion, so I called the number… When Mirabal answered, I said that the Yankees were going to win 70 games--I started describing my point. In my defense I said that the Yankees had some popular names, but the team still wasn’t competitive. I described how those recently acquired players were all in a late age and their history with lesions, besides the fact that they had a vulnerable pitching staff. By the way he reacted it was obvious that he agreed, he recognized that my voice was coming from a kid. We had an animated conversation in which he kept questioning my knowledge. Franklin was taking a dramatic questioning role to keep the audience interested until the call ended, he had my number on phone line until commercial break. After the section Franklin sounded interested: “You are very talented” he said, “You should come to the program someday”. I was stunned. When I met him in person we had a delightful conversation, he even offered me an opportunity to work with him when I finish high school, as a sports
