As soon as I take a step out on the field, I forget everything outside of baseball. Before every game, I warm up by taking ground balls. As simple and meaningless as this sounds, it is one of my favorite things to do. Every single ground ball I field, I field with passion. Each one means something.…
It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…
Racial history of pro baseball The baseball world that the young Jackie Robinson knew consisted of a whites-only system of the eight-team National and American leagues, as well as hundreds of Minor league teams. Blacks played in the "Negro Leagues," which developed after 1900 as an alternative to the segregated white game. Following the notorious Black Sox Scandal of the 1919 World Series, commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis incorporated more of a power-hitting game, which became the dominant playing style, and ballparks became much larger.…
Most of the time I was starting my day at 5:30 in the morning and going to lift. Next I would go to school. After that I would go to Colome and work on my hitting and catching. My second favorite thing after playing baseball is getting prepared for it. I was also making sure I kept my grades up because I am a student first and an athlete second.…
I'm not a coward nor a scaredy cat that fears. I just had a feeling that something would happen, just not to me at baseball practice for some reason. My gut usually told me the truth. So I had a really strong feeling about something would happen.…

Before I went to the World Series, I thought it was a joke, but I guess not because on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH was where the World Series was. I was more ecstatic than ever going to the World Series. When we got there, we had to choose our seats because it was standing room only(SRO). We chose our seats in foul ball territory, just about 15 feet away from the foul pole in left field. The game started and a country band named “Locash” sang the “Star Spangled Banner”, even fireworks shot up into the air making a crackling sound.…
As an African-American man living in America I have longed for the integration of baseball since I was a young boy. The emergence of this star athlete Jackie Robinson, playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers has given me hope for the bigger picture. The bigger picture being that integration will not only be with baseball. This collaboration on the baseball diamond gives me hopes for a future with integration throughout every aspect of life. I have a few reasons why I believe it is time for baseball to be integrated.…

What I was looking forward to doing my senior year, was leading my team as a senior to the best we could be. I was working harder than I ever had all winter long leading up to this. I had one goal that I did not see happen any of my four years there, which was getting to the state championship. There were a lot of things that had to go right for this to happen. The team had to be good, they had to work hard every day, they had to win districts, they had to win regional’s, and the most importantly the team had to get along great they have to be a family.…
In the beginning of the 1960s, it seemed to be the dawn of a golden age, but by the end of the 60’s many Americans thought the nation was falling apart. The JFK assassination, Vietnam war, fights for civil rights, racial tensions, radical students, and the MLK assassination were main events that took place in the 60’s that made many Americans fear the worst for our nation. In the middle of all the hate, crime, and death were 16 major league baseball teams fighting for a championship, not caring what was going on in the rest of the country. While America seemed to be falling apart, baseball was on the rise, and having what most people would say its own golden age.…
It was a nice summer day when my father took me to my first Yankees game. “If I saved a quarter a day for life, do you think I could have that one day?” He replied “Put your heart into I, and you can achieve anything.” I was referring to a player’s car that drove by that was glowing as it passed by. I knew it was a player’s car, because he drove to a designated parking lot labeled “Players Garage.”…
As I walked into the stadium, the smell of hotdogs and popcorn filled the air. It was a familiar setting. A setting I had grown to know very well because my dad loved baseball. The red white and blue colors were everywhere as fans came from every direction into the stadium. My dad and I walked to the outfield where the opposing team was warming up for the game.…
