Childbearing: A Necessary Destination

Childbearing is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling act experienced by the human species. Pregnancy is a journey that takes us to a specific destination. A much anticipated destination but yet mysterious, no one knows exactly how it will be when we arrived at the destination. We anticipate the process of this amazing experience, the fetus growing inside us; the first kick; and the intensity of the joy it brings. We presume that we will become sleepy out of nowhere; hungry for weird stuffs; tired like we are carrying heavy load. We expect to be angry at the whole word for the discomfort and pain. I can still hear the scream and cries of desperation of a friend when she lost her baby. It was hurtful to be a witness of this event. I remember going with my friend to the doctor’s office for her routine 18 weeks’ ultrasound, all she wanted was to keep the baby gender a surprise. She refused to look at the ultrasound machine and focused her attention on the Nurse. That day, the last thing she had on her mind was a miscarriage. Unfortunately, the nurse couldn’t see any movement or any heartbeat. They took her to the emergency department where the doctor told her, she was no longer pregnant. She was bleeding and nothing could have been done to stop the process. She was looking at her baby lifeless and, powerless facing her sorrow. No words in this world could have calmed her because her burden was too heavy. The pain in her heart for the loss of the baby was unbearable. She was grieving, upset and distressed. The facial expression of my mother, radiant with happiness due to my success and achievement was amazing. I always appreciate how much she sacrificed and how hard she worked to help me achieve my goal. She has taught me (directly and indirectly) many values in life. She has been there for me, and I love her very much. On my graduation she was looking like a woman of substance worth emulating. I wonder what kind of difficulty she went through during the process, she wasn’t educated but instead of taking me to work in the farm, she was making sure that I studied and passed my classes.
