It was the summer of 2004. My parents and brother were almost at my grandparents place. Along with their 5 daughters who are not married yet. They live in a small town back in Mexico, at a small ranch. or as everyone calls it “El Ranchito.” The land is bumpy and not flat.. After a 22 hour drive we arrived at our destination. So there it was, the Adobe home with the nice garden a mix of orchids, dahlias, and begonias. Aurelia and Tommy were standing near the cacti and had their arms wide open for us to hug them. Aurelia and Tommy have been happily married for 23 years. There love is strong and they have maintained it like that for such a long time. We were starving and of course as soon as we entered there was a nice delicious homemade meal waiting for us to feast on. Now being the person Aurelia is of course she prepared this for us. She was humble about this gesture, expecting nothing in return. She was a person who has a strong work ethic. For a 56 year old it is incredible how …show more content…
This was the typical routine. Aurelia wakes up to prepare breakfast for her husband and all of us, then we go to help her do house chores. Aurelia has a store attached to the house and it consists of all the basic needs. This consists of groceries, candy, cleaning supplies,etc. Basically everything you would need except clothes. Tommy on the other hand wakes up, eats breakfast and goes off to work. He begins his work according to what needs to done that day. Whether it is feeding the cows or horses. That day is when it took place at the crops field, fertilizing, taking care of it, etc, This is when with an axe had to on their own, cut the extra unwanted pasture and weed that was growing. It was a very long process Tommy said that it was tiring and the temperature was extremly hot. After hours of working he finished with that. The days pass so quickly.
