Superior Essays
Affton, Affton is some little place in St.Louis Missouri. Just the same old same old happens here, nothing too important happens. It is early January and the beginning of semester 2 of freshman year at Affton High School and another boring and depressing half of the school year is about to start. I go through all my first four classes of the day and just hope this semester goes by fast, Then I arrive in art class, same old art teacher from last semester, Mr.Breuer, but I did not know anybody in the class, everyone was upperclassman and well I did not know any of them. I look around at all these upperclassman and I just stumble upon this one person, I had never seen this person before, were they a senior? Junior? Sophomore? I had it in my mind that this girl was not a freshman, there was no way, I had not seen her in any of my classes last semester and never have seen her around school. Was this someone new? How have I not seen this person before?
After class I just kinda stood there for a moment and tried to comprehend what has happened, I had this weird feeling going through my body, like butterflies pretty much. Later on I go to my 6th hour spanish class..what a joy, then I go to the most amazing class ever (Just kidding), Doctor Martins history class. I look around and I see plenty of people I knew which was great, I

I had a plan that I would go up to the airport and surprise her. Gabby’s best friend Hailey knew about this as she flew in with her, and so did her mom. She arrived at the airport and was on her way downstairs to grab her luggage and I snuck up behind her a wrapped my arms and around her and the expression on her face was priceless. I haven’t seen a smile that big in like forever. The way way her eyes were shining, like hundreds of diamonds and her smile, her smile was magical in a way, it made everything quite better in every

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

During my freshsman year of highschool, I made a long term goal to become the cross country captain by senior year. I listened to the upperclassmen on the team and took their advice as I matured throughout each season. I understood that in order to become captain of the team I would have to work my tail off. The obstacles that stood in the way included competition between other schools and whether or not I would put work in during the offseason. I challenged myself to get through these obstacles by working out in the offseason.…

My freshman year was one of my craziest school year. It came from fake hall passes, to skipping in the restroom, and acting all bad by getting referrals. I remember my ap secretary always used to call me “Diablo” just because i always got in trouble and she said i used to drive her crazy. I just never cared about the consequence of skipping so much, good thing I never got caught. Meeting new friends and new attitudes and a little more of responsibility and to be honest waking up so early every single morning was not that fun.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

During junior year winter break while browsing Georgia Tech website, I encountered two figures 32% and 25%, the year 2015 and 2016 freshman acceptance rates. The huge 7% rate drop challenged me immensely, making me uncomfortable, shattering my chance to be a proud Yellow Jackets. Descending acceptance rate inspired me to focus on what I wanted to accomplish, despite how uncomfortable I felt. As the spring semester progressed, I worked rigorously on my AP courses and scored perfect in SAT Math and SAT subject tests. Perseverance, motivation, and hard work helped me tremendously to maintain ascending GPA during the spring semester and boosted my confidence to continue a similar trend in the senior year.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area.
