You’re a B average student in all classes except in English.” My guidance counselor said to me as I sat in her office discussing my accommodation plan for my 6th grade school year. “I don’t really see a reason to try, I’ll never amount to anything. I was a 6th grader with a Lexile equivalent to that of a 4th grader. The countless failures I endured during my early education caused me to hit rock bottom and realize that it was my fault I was here. Realizing this, I put in the work I should have from the beginning. I was two years behind my classmates in reading comprehension but never gave up until I surpassed them. Instead of stopping there, I challenged myself to see how far ahead I could get. I’m now a 12th grader with a Lexile of 1300 that can read college texts with
