“I can remember opening my eyes in panic, hearing sirens and everybody screaming and crying. Terror in everyone's eyes everywhere I looked, people were running trying to get to their loved ones. I was wearing jeans that had been torn from when I fell, with a t-shirt and running shoes. My face was covered in dirt along with my hair from all the smoke that were being made from the burning houses and building. Then it hit me, i was traveling with my best friend: Sam, before the explosion, I turn in all directions trying to spot him but then when i turn around I hear a gunshot…” “Standing there holding his stomach was Sam, and just like me, we were looking for each other but the difference is, he got shot for it. After hearing that gunshot and seeing who it was my heart stopped, time froze and then rewinded. Everything started flashing back to when we first met, we were 5 and we were at the park playing like no other kid would be when they are 5 but me and him were different. We fought over one swing when 10 other swings were still open, i remember i won by pushing him out of the way and that’s when our parents met and after that day, we became best friend ever since. The city was getting put back together piece by piece, bodies were being found and funerals were being prepd. Then the day had came “ FRIENDS AND FAMILIES OF SAM SMITH” was written on poster board with a picture of him. Throughout this whole process of grief i have been through shock, denial, anger and bargaining, I haven’t shed a tear.
