Life of A Migrant
There are many disputes, I had in my life that has shaped me into what I am today. Without those challenges and experiences (good and bad), I would not be where I am today. I was born and raised in an economic capital of Pakistan- Karachi. At the age of fourteen, my family decided to migrate to a new country due to perilous circumstances. We came to the United States for a better lifestyle which was earned but at a very extravagant cost. At first, my father decided to send me and my elder brother alone to the United States. Two total strangers in a country with no knowledge about the culture or the language, we were afraid. However, the life did give us a path to follow. Growing up, we learned more about what not to do than what we need to do. I was born into a middle-class family. I went to a private school in a bus that was attacked twice in a year. We would not go out that much unless it was necessary. There was no such thing as going to a park for a walk or went outside to eat with your friends. Mostly we would stay inside the home and try not get killed. I was always an A- grade student who wanted to get the best education possible. My parents wanted the same, however, life is not that kind. One ordinary day, my father received a letter delivered by a strange teenager with a handgun loaded in his hands. The letter was from a local gangster who represented a political party. The gangster threatens to kill my father if my father did not pay the payment which was five million rupees. My father did not tell us about the letters he received. He quickly decided to send me and my brother abroad for studies and better a lifestyle with no danger in our lives.
