Making history Winning this tournament meant everything for our team, I would had never imagined that we were capable of achieving such a goal. In 2014 the annual volleyball competition of Bilingual schools took place at “Escuela Internacional Sampedrana" in San Pedro Sula, Cortes. Our school took teams to compete in four categories in Pre Juvenile girls, Pre Juvenile boys, INFA girls and INFA boys which was my category. Our team had gone under a harsh training, but not only had us, all teams gone through the same. That year we had strong teams in all categories, but everyone was betting on the pre juvenile boys’ team. Our trainer said he believed in the capacity of all our teams, but everyone knew he was expecting for the pre juvenile boys to win the tournament. We stayed at the hotel "Primavera" which was everything I contemplated not only because of the place itself but because of the magnificent experiences I lived with my teammates. The first day our school went to one of the greatest ignauration I had ever witness, …show more content…
Giovanni showed up and gave us a small speech that I will never forget, for the first time he didn't complain or scream as usually, actually he made us feel like a family. After the speech, our team went to the court and started the warm up exercises. As the match initiated, people started cheering both teams, you could feel the pressure in the air. I felt like my heart was getting out of my chest as we scored each point. After 40 minutes of breathtaking match, "EIS" had won 1 set and us 2; the fourth set was going to decide each team destiny. The game was, "Holy Spirit" 24-18 "EIS", we were just one point from becoming the ABSH champions. I will never forget the moment Mark scored what became the winning point for our team; you could barely see the ball because of how fast Mark had hit it. When the referee blew the whistle, we realized that the match had ended and we had won the

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders. Of course, I didn't want to lose and I wanted to strive to do my best. When I made the Junior Varsity team, the first thing I thought about was how I needed to give my best. My team wanted to beat TC West more than anything, and now I was a part of this team! Every workout, run, and volley, we pushed to our max as we prepared to take…

Every muscle in my body ached as I bounced the ball at the baseline, a slow and deliberate bounce 1…. 2…. 3…. The summer sun was directly overhead, and I could feel the heat radiating off the court through the soles of my shoes. There was a searing pain in my shoulder, the consequence of playing with an injury for an entire season. But there I was, at the NCAA National Tennis Championships in California, on the edge of winning my first All American doubles title. Tied in the third set, we were playing a 7-point tiebreak to determine the match. The winner would take home the coveted All-American title.…

By the time I sprinted onto the field for the start of the Jefferson Cup soccer final I had mentally prepared myself for the fierce showdown ahead. I had been playing soccer for most of my short life, giving up all other sports to concentrate on being a top player. In fact my whole family was committed to the game, so I guess you could say that I eat, sleep, and breathe soccer. I sure hoped that all my hard work would be translated into a big win that day. As I readied myself for the refs whistle to announce the start of the game, the hair on my neck stood straight up, and the adrenaline rushed through my body, filling every vein and artery. Transformed from a 12 year-old-girl into a soccer warrior ready for the battle ahead, I told myself; keep your goals simple: get to the ball first, win all your one v. ones, pass the ball accurately and communicate with your teammates.…

Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

Additionally, this year was made special since I finally choose to stay after school and join a program that has changed my life forever and given me various opportunities. Indeed, I decided to join the chess club, also known as the only club that was big in that school year. Anyhow, to begin to understand just how enormous the change the chess club provided it is important to understand that prior to the club Esperanza Middle School had earned no trophies. Even more, the chess club was the first club that participated in tournaments that were run by the city, not to mention the fact that I was the first one to earn a trophy in one of those tournaments. Even though the chess team provided a space for me and my friends to engage it was also…

America has given many gifts to my generation. The one I am going to focus on is electronics. Some of the electronics I think are super important are the iPhone and Ipod. These two electronics are both made by apple. Back before we had these you had to use a dictionary to spell a word or go find a computer. With these devices you are literally carrying a computer around in your pocket. You just simply click the safari or google icon and type in anything you want to know and in a matter of seconds it will have all the information possible at the tips of your fingers. They have major advantages but of course they have their downsides just like anything. There is not limits on what you can find…

Arrived at 6:30. Explored the lexis nexus website. I began warming up and stretching. At 7:00, I joined to Pirl, Doyle, and Duck in the fish bowl hallway. PT started at 7:15. As usual we started with jumping jacks. I was feeling good at the start of PT, but my left shoulder quickly began to tire and develop pain. We wrapped things up with karaoke runs, and a sprint down the hall. I pared with Ports for the run, and we kept pace nicely. PT finished up at just after 8:00. After changing into blues, putting on my duty belt, and my boots, I made my way to the classroom and began reviewing the Georgia Law Enforcement Handbook. At 8:30, Chief Robertson entered and we began class. Continuing where left off, the class kept on working through the powerpoint…

At the crack of dawn, I rise up out of my hotel bedroom, nervous for the first time in my life. As an eleven year old, my competitive instincts are nowhere near experienced, but I am driven by my natural surroundings, such as my parents or my conscience. In this episode, I am competing in my first U.S.T.A. (united states tennis association) tournament in San Antonio, Texas. I wait diligently on the court for a competitive matchup that is unexpected and unpredicted. My opponent walks onto the court as if he has a crown on his head, and leaves in utter frustration. Ironically my competition defeated itself through a poor attitude 6-0, 6-0. This match ended with one shattered racket and dishonorable parents for my…

I knew that they would look down on me or offer to help me practice more, but I knew that even when they were younger, they weren’t as uncoordinated as I was. My whole family was good at soccer since they were my age, and realizing that I was the only one who wasn’t made me feel like I was letting them down. Even in my culture, soccer was a favorite that almost everyone knew how to play or even…

America's gift to my generation is freedom and equality in the past, many things have happened. For instance, we used to have slaves and not all races and gender were equal. People were treated differently today than in the past. An example is blacks and whites had separate classes, sides of the bus, and places to live. Also, women were paid differently and they could only work at home because of their gender.…

What a privilege to be a student-athlete who is healthy and able to play soccer at such a great facility, on such an amazing and meaningful soccer field. Furthermore I feel salvaged: as soon as I started to play soccer, it served as a connection to God. Each and every game and experience with soccer helped me building more and more commitment to God. I see my ability to play soccer as a gift from God. He put it in my heart to serve as a ‘wingman’ for the start of a relationship with him. Soccer is more than a game – it’s a lifestyle and teacher who makes me praise and honor God. I play for him to show my gratitude toward his work in my life. And the moment I step on the soccer field, observing its beauty, significance and connectedness, makes me recognize God’s love – I feel like I’m…
